I feel like you said this about Pinto, Sanderson, and a handful of other players and been wrong every single time.
This one's different though in all fairness. They both signed after their sophomore seasons. He also didn't come to develop camp. They didn't have a log jam on his spot either, he knows he is behind Chabot and Sanderson. He is also an American maybe he doesn't want to come up here with the political climate. I really hope he does sign though. My type of player, love the nastiness and physicality. I think he has some real potential, skates awesome for his size. He will be on a longer development curve so patience is important. In general this fan base needs more of it. However at this point the AHL is better for his development he is 21 in january. He is 6'4 220. It's time. Does he have to play his 4th season to be a UFA or is it only this one?

He didn't come to development camp because his grandmother passed away. He was going to be at the camp if he didn't have that family matter to deal with.

I don't know where this speculation is coming from suggesting he might not sign here but I think it is completely unfounded. He decided to go back to UND because he wanted to work on his offensive skills, take on a bigger role and get time on the power play. The Sens were interested in having him turn pro but it seems pretty clear that spending another season at UND would allow him to get the opportunity to work on skills in game that he wouldn't get in Belleville. He will get a lot of minutes at UND this season.

He is really close friends with Sanderson and Pinto, and if I'm not mistaken he is also friends with Boucher. He will sign with the Sens after his UND season ends.

Kleven already explained why he chose to go back to UND for another season.
UND defenseman Tyler Kleven to return for junior season
"Just talking to the (Ottawa) development staff, my family, my trainers and my coaches, I was just trying to evaluate where I was at and make a plan that was best for me," Kleven said. "If I come back another year, I'm going to get really big playing time and be a big part of the team and hopefully a leader on the team.
"I'm still young and I think staying in college another year to get a little more experience will help. I don't necessarily need to do that in the AHL, where if I play bad, I'm going to get sat the next night. I don't want to have to worry about that. Brad (Berry) does a great job with development and developing me. With our new weight room coming, it's really hard to say no to coming back."
"I've been pretty happy with my offensive game development at North Dakota," Kleven said. "I'm not getting a lot of assists, but I haven't been on the power play a whole lot. I'm happy with my five-on-five play. Hopefully, next year, I'll develop (power play) over the summer. I'd like to add that in my game. I know deep down my role when I turn pro, though, and it's not going to be power play."

Nice to see you coming around on the Klevin pick after criticizing Dorion for the selection and all that crap about the “the goalie having a better breakout pass”

Posters need to understand that NHL organizations do not stay up all night panicking that their college players will delay their careers by year(s) to become free agents.

This is an exceedingly rare event. You guys really really need battle your demons on this irrational paranoia.

I like what Kleven said about the weight room and knowing his role isn't going to be on the PP

I think he's a real low risk to not sign here. We've got a big UND group here plus several other American players

We could use 220 pounds of nasty

Kleven will be approaching man-strength in about a year or two from now. Getting 1 more year of college and 1 year in the AHL will make him a perfect addition to our 3rd pair, if not higher, with his size, physical play, and I hope truculence!

There are not many guys his size who can skate and have pretty good hands. It remains to be seen whether he can put it all together, but his ceiling is higher than third pair. If all goes well, he could be in the lineup in 2024, adding physicality to a contending team, for cheap money.

Does anyone have an updated report on how big he is?

I see like 6'4" and 200lbs but expect he is bigger now? Heavier at least.

Using HockyDB.

UND had him listed at 6'4 213 on their website for the 2021-22 season,

That's a big kid! Lol. If he can play RD in 1 or 1 1/2 years...there it is.
Sanderson - Kleven.

What do you think?
My guess:
Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - JBD
Kleven - Roger

Then there is this Filip Norberg kid that if he can turn into a player could push someone aside.

Salivating for this guy to play pro. Man, what a fun player he could be if it all comes together.

He is a team worst -6 in 6 games 0 points and they have a winning record. He is a physical d man so it's not all about stats. Has anyone been watching UND?
