Eight games in Belleville this year and his stat line is, to paraphrase former Raptors coach Sam Mitchell, zero, zero zero. No goals, no assists, no points. He has six penalty minutes and is a minus one. Do the kid a favour and send him to the ECHL where there is a chance he can maybe keep up and get in on a goal once every few games. Right now he is just taking up space that an actual prospect could use.

Agreed. Play him at a level where he can remember what it feels like to score goals and make plays. Once he's PPG, bring him back to the AHL. If he doesn't hit PPG in the ECHL, he's simply a total write-off.

The stat line isn't going to necessarily tell you whether a bottom six forward is "keeping up".

Somebody who's watching the games would have to comment on how guys like Boucher, Halliday (2 assists in 8 games) and Pettersson (1 goal in 8 games) have actually looked out there.

I think during his D+1 season I did a comparison with other 2021 CHL draftees. I mean he was getting out scored even by 5th round D-men

We really did not do him any service by drafting him that high, putting unreasonable expectations and a lot of pressure on a guy who should have been a 2nd round pick

He should sue Pierre Dorion and all people involved in that selection

How long does Boucher stick it out? Maybe they should send him down to the ECHL to find more of his game
It’s not looking good.
As optimistic as I was trying to be up till this year. I think I’ve stopped caring about him now. He really needs to figure it out soon.

We sorta went over this last year with many thinking he'd benefit more from an overage year in junior as opposed to the AHL. A lot of people (me included) felt the stigma of doing an OHL overage year was too tough mentally, and I think the same applies to the ECHL. Thats pretty much admitting failure at this point. less than 2 months until he is 22, he has to figure it out in the AHL.

Coronato also emerging as a core player on the flames.

the only player in the first 17 picks who looks like they will never make the nhl is the giant reach lol.

but of course dorion had nothing to do with that pick.

Are there any believers left? This guy was the most obvious bust we've seen in a long time from the get-go, and had many people here defending him and shitting on anyone who dared call this pick a reach.

It was a terrible pick from the outset, but I thought he could at least have a Lazar like career, that seems like a pipedream at this point.

It's "understandable" (albiet, very dumb) to see what they were thinking with the pick, but it's not a great look

They either:

Had zero confidence in their scouting during a covid year (which is an absolute farce of an opinion on that draft, there was tons and tons of hockey to scout) and took what they considered was a safe guy who could fill a role.

or

They legitimately thought Boucher was a guy who fit the bill for a 10th overall from their scouting (which would be funny because he played less than pretty much everyone)

The Sens desperately, DESPERATELY, need to bring some new blood in at the top of the scouting department. The fact it wasn't addressed this summer is concerning, their process needs a complete overhaul.

The past 3 drafts the Sens have 7 forwards pllaying in the CHL/USHL/NCAA. Those guys combined have (Never counted Oskar Petterson and Stephen Halliday as they are guys playing pro, have 8 points in 24 games, Halliday was am offenisve star in NCAA):

92GP 22g 21a 43p

That is absolutely horrendous. Sens need to deviate from drafting toolsy guys who aren't very good at hockey right now who they hope develop, to drafting guys who are actually good players now we cann develop despite their tools not being as good as the big athletic guys. O'Neil and Dyck are two more guys drafted out of subpar leagues.

We need to bring in a proper POHO. We need a better GM. We need a better coach. We need better scouts.

We always give it a go with bottom of the barrel type hires.

We don't have top of the class in any area.

If TSN/sportsnet/hockey news etc, (basically any major publication) put their hockey experts to gather and make a list of best management, best coaching, best scouting (literally best of everything off ice) would we rank top 10 in anything? Nope.

It starts at the top. We need to hire good management so that when we do a rebuild, it's done right and leads to cup wins.

I thought the topic was Boucher and maybe scouting versus another rant about firing everyone?

Well it was about their lack of scouting ability that lead to this pick...so someone said they need to revamp their whole scouting team.

But I'm saying before they revamp their whole scouting team, they also need to actually bring in a good GM and coaching.

Having great scouts is good, but without proper coaching or management, you won't develop them well either.

You need to have the good scouts to pick the best players, but then you need good management to put them in places to succeed and develop and then you need good coaching to show them how to win at the NHL level.

Good scouting alone will do nothing without also improving coaching and management. That's all. Not meant to detail the conversation.

I'm just saying it's starts at the top.

He has to play at a level where he can have some success and build his game imo. It may be a tough pill to swallow .. but if he is standing still he'll get passed.
