“Nick Ritchie has plenty of it and isn’t afraid to use it. In fact, it’s one aspect of his game that makes him such a prized item in this year’s draft. Standing 6’3″, 236 lbs, Ritchie is one of the most dominating scorers juniors has to offer. The big-bodied winger for the Peterborough Petes has amazing quickness for his size and packs a punch with his wrist shot.
The next great power forward in the making, Ritchie had a phenomenal OHL season scoring 39 goals and adding 136 penalty minutes. As I said before, he’s not one to shy away from physical play and oftentimes gets into the heads of players with his physical play. The one knock on his game might be his consistency”

Very similar guys. Both taken 10th, both big bruisers who had/have + skating for their size, both have received praise for their shots. Ritchie obviously had the production in his favour.
Their draft profiles might be similar but using Ritchie's pro career to project Boucher's seems very inaccurate. Ritchie, since turning pro, hasn't really been dedicated to his athletic development. He is never considered to be in peak physical condition, he is often criticized for eating too much, weighing too much or just generally lacking the discipline when it comes to his physical condition. On the ice he has also been criticized for his consistency, not just his consistency in production but also his general intensity and compete in games and his level of physicality on a game by game basis. He is a player that has generally been criticized as disengaged, disinterested, lacking in compete and intensity.

Boucher does not have any of those traits I listed. In fact his reputation is the opposite of Ritchie's in almost all ways. Boucher is completely dedicated to athletic development and is in pretty close to peak physical shape. He has a reputation for he compete level and intensity and the consistency of his overall compete and physicality. He would be considered as a player that is incredibly dedicated.

Therefore if you are going to use Ritchie as a comparable then we would need to adjust it to a hypothetical scenario where Ritchie was dedicated to being in peak physical shape and was engaged and full of compete and intensity every game and consistently displaying his physicality. That player would be far more valuable than the player that Ritchie currently is.

There's the professional scouting report for me.

Ritchie was 6 foot 3, 236
Boucher is 6 foot 1, 205

That's a big difference. At 235 in junior you just bully players. You get space because of your size all the way thru the system. Then you land in the NHL, everything is fast, and you never really learned to play, you just succeeded because of a 50 pound size advantage.

At 205, 6 foot 1, the size advantage isn't the same. Boucher can be physical but he's not 50 pounds bigger than his average competitor and far less likely to get time and space because opponents are shy.

Looks like he had his elbow out in that clip...but a bit hard to see. He's got to clean up his form, if that's the case. Otherwise he'll be suspended into oblivion.

His career as a Senators prospect so far, as early as it is, and as unfair as it may be....has been a complete joke.

From moment he was drafted, to this potential suspendable hit tonight.

Yeah, def not looking like a good pick thus far. I didn't think the hit was that bad though. Kids had his head down forever.

It's still impossible to say what kind of producer he'll be in the NHL since he's played about a half season worth of games over the last 2 years, but all I know is if he, Grieg, and Kleven are all on the team...yikes. 21st century version of the Hanson brothers.

Can't wait. Bit scared at the same time though.
