Leafs biggest need next year is bottom 6. Top 5 will be the Bozak with PK and JVR. 2nd line will be NK with Lupul. Id like to see Levio get a shot on that line and he may because of the cap.. Clarkson will be on the 3rd line, but the rest of the bottom 6 is up for grabs. Holland will probably get a spot as will Damigo and Ashton. That leaves 2 more needed. Ideally 1 internally maybe Broll. The last spot would need to be a Center probably a UFA... Ideally this would free up money for the D.
Kessel Bozak JVR
Lupul Kadri Levio
Clarkson Holland Ashton
Broll UFA Damigo
Let NK, DB, JM, MR all leave. The only guy Id consider is Nik at a reduced price.

Lets not forget about hartikinen !!

If he decides to come back to the nhl, he could be a great 3rd line option for us.

Hartikinen - bolland/holland - komarov/ashton
Damigo/broll - mclement/holland - bodie/komarov/devane

We have a good chance to shack up our bottom 6 this summer, will be interesting who gets to stay and who decides to move on... for the love of god, just stay away from free agency !

Edit : hartikainens contract runs through 14/15, so I imagine he will be over there for the duration. A weakness of his apparently is skating, would be awesome if he could get some time with barb underhill during the summer if he still gets to attend camp.

Down the road gauthier biggs paring could be awesome !!!

Biggs is most likely getting another year in the AHL where he will play on the 2nd or 3rd line. For next year, the potential bottom 6 graduates to the NHL are D'amigo, Ashton, and Devane IMO.

Barring any trades (yeah, we'll probably at least mix up our forwards a bit so it'll change how many we call up and who, but as of now):

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Holland/Leivo/FA
Kulemin - Bolland - Clarkson
D'amgio - McClement - Devane/Bodie/Ashton

If that #2RW doesn't get filled with those options, then one of our #3 wingers takes it, D'amigo moves to the 3rd line, and we have two of Ashton/Bodie/Devane play on the 4th line.

Trades are likely to happen and I think it'll impact who gets called up, but D'amigo should be the first call-up we have and it seems like it'll go that way considering how he will have played 20-30 games in the NHL this year.

Edit: Forgot about Hartikanen and Komarov... although I don't expect either to come over, I hope they do (at least one of them).

Biggs shouldn't be called up at this point, the OP is saying to bring him up to play Orr's role and chip in offensively. however I question what the long term goal is of the OP for Biggs. at this point he's barely able to chip in offensively in the AHL he wont be able to do it in the NHL, also at this point the organization should still be trying to build him into a guy who can play In the top 6 and the best place for that is in the AHL. maybe after another season if his offense hasn't improved then you make the switch to bottom 6 role.

Biggs needs to stop waiting for his chance to make a difference and go out and earn it.

For a guy his size and his potential, he should be going out there and being a standout from the physical side of the game. Making those big hits, strong on the boards, and being an animal in his own end.

I've seen more out of Holland, Carrick, McKegg, Ryan, MacWilliam and Leivo then Biggs in pretty much every game I have seen. The guy needs to step it up and go for it. Go above the role you have been given.

That being said, don't forget the role you have. If you're on the 3rd, then you have to play that role. That doesn't mean you can't still do those things and show your capabilities to be a go to guy.

Still seems early for Biggs. i think Ashton makes the team next year for sure, and i'd rate D'Amigo ahead of Biggs at the moment.

Biggs definitely needs a year or two in the AHL ... Next year Ashton and D'amigo should be up with the Leafs, they've earned it IMO ... Keep Bodie, resign Komarov and the bottom 6 wings are fill with grit, speed, and energy

The only improvement we need is bottom 6?!!!

Are some people blind? Biggs is the remnant of the Burke era, wasted picks, weak drafting, poor judgement. This team needs a lot more than Biggs, a lot more. It is this exact kind of denial that will keep this team down for years to come.

Hard to say they are flaws in drafting. That bulk of 1st round has yet to really shape into anything....With the rare second rounders, it seems like a lot of teams didn't pick up much drafting in the second half of that years 1st round.

I am optimistic in Biggs and Percy.....Stuart seems more like the Gunnarsson type, less is more, which you see often in later rounds; but I think he will eventually be a decent NHLer someday.

Both were safer picks, like Gauthier....one that may take longer to come around. IMO we need some more high risk guys.

Leivo's, McKegg's, Verhaeghe's, Brown's are the types of players we need to keep drafting in later rounds.

I watch Biggs quite a bit. He is a likeable kid and I wish him the best. However I doubt he will play a single game for the leafs. The things he is missing can't be taught. He has no offence at all and is not a nasty pugnacious type like a Chris Neil.

Ashton, Leivo, Broll, Devanne and Carrick would all make better bottom six forwards. We have a whole crop of new forwards next year to push him down the depth chart.

If we get a new coach I'd love to bring up guys like Ashton, D'amigo and Leivo more full time.

plus Brown will be in the AHL next season, let's see if he keeps his stats up.

Brown-Mckegg-Leivo/Ashton (would be quite the line for the Marlies)

Broll-Carrick-Biggs (Is a line I would push more next year if I were Spott)

We have guys like Andreas Johnson and Fabrice Herzog that could be good. Especially Johnson.

No way I bring up Biggs. Simply doesn't deserve it based on his play. The fact that he was a first rounder is the only reason his name is even brought up. He needs, at minimum, one more year in the AHL. Why rush him? I thought most understood that he was a project who required plenty of time to develop. He was never going to be a guy who would make the jump early.

Biggs ??

I'd give Josh Leivo a shot long before Tyler Biggs.

then you have absolutely failed to understand the premise behind the suggestion. I'm looking for a replacement for Orr with a bit of offense to ignite the fourth line. If you think Leivo is that guy, youre seeing something I am not.

Biggs is not capable of playing the role you have assigned him in the AHL yet so why would he be given the same role in the NHL.

He is a long way away from an NHL role....and looking more and more like a possible bust for a drafted pick that cost us a second round pick as well. I do not see any indication that he is anywhere near ready to play at the NHL level currently nor do I expect him to progress enough over the last part of the season and summer to compete for a roster spot.

D'amigo and Ashton deserve the opportunity ahead of Biggs. If he's not as noticeable over them at this level, what makes you think that he'll leapfrog over them in the summer. Both D'amigo and Ashton are vital members of the marlies core and have already NHL experience. I'd say Biggs should follow a similar path to D'amigo. I'm not even sure Biggs will be on the starting roster come playoff time.

What part of "Replacement for Orr" are you struggling with? You think either Ashton or D'Amigo has the physical attributes to replace Orr? I see Biggs as a guy who can do all Colton does, while taking a regular shift. Youre comparing chalk and cheese here; I'm trying to plug a pretty good piece into a hole that needs to be addressed. Orr cant compete at this level because the skills just arent there. Biggs doesnt have that problem. He only lacks experience and opportunity. Everyone here seems to be judging him by what he's done on the fourth line playing probably under 8 minutes a game, in his first pro year. They forget he was an integral piece of Oshawa's offense last year with 53 points in 60 games.

"The opportunity" as you call it, is a chance to take Colton's roster spot. You want D'Amigo fighting Chris Neil and Milan Lucic????
