These are the kind of mistakes that have set this team back all these years. Picking guys in the first round who don't even pan out to be NHL players
Waste of a pick, like so many others

I trust this regime is finally doing things right

I'm sure every Team has such picks in their history.

The few times I watched Biggs play, the only things he did were cycling the puck over and over until it was turned over and/or taking awkward-looking shots on goal that had no chance of going in. He's a useless plug... an even less skilled Matthias (that's anything but a compliment).

The worst part is; we liked him so much that we traded up to get him.
That would be like trading up to get Gauthier. Now, I don't dislike the kid, but he isn't blowing anyone away and would be a horrible player to covet, so much so to trade assets for.

I sure hope our new management made the correct 'reverse trade' of this one and Konecny is trumped by Dermot + Bracco. The potential of Jenner + Gibson for Biggs is ugly.

We also got Timashov from the Konecny trade. He looks like he could be something special

I thought this was an old thread. I guess people are going to cry over this and continue to use it as the sole example of our "decades of terrible drafting" for the next decades to come.

Actually Dermott, Bracco and Dzierkals. Timashov was the Leafs' own 5th rounder and the 7th player they chose in that draft.

Oh my bad, thanks for the clarification. Thought his pick was involved in the trade. Still, looking like a great player

These are ALL players that have worn the blue and white who were drafted in the first round out of the top ten over the last THIRTY YEARS showing games and points for the Leafs. Boyes obviously needs an asterisk.

He was a very questionable pick at the time of the draft and he got worse every year following. It's what goes wrong when you value aggression and size over pure skill at the draft.its also a textbook perfect example about why it's rarely worth it to trade up late in the draft. Better to trade back if anything and maximize your odds of getting that impact NHLer.

Leafs could have walked away that year with both of Boone Jenner and Saad.

The 2011 draft was as big of a disaster as the Kessel trade in terms of setting back the team's development.

All in the past boys! No need to dwell on the failures...look towards the futures!

Though...that trade up scenario to get Biggs still haunts my dreams!

Tlusty averaged almost .05 PPG as a Leaf, which isn't bad considering how he was employed by the team.

Steen had a solid rookie season but stagnated after that. Still, he wasn't a bad pick. The problem was they gave up on him too soon.
