Speculation: Two teams interested in acquiring Evander Kane

Let's get down to the bottom of this:

Oilers fans, how has Kane, as a -person-, been in Edmonton? Has anyone given him praise or has he done anything stupid there or petty issues?

I have looked high and low and unless there's more out there than I'm seeing (and I've surfed and did some due dilligent research), he's been pretty sound. Everyone has a past and while most of it is, not all of it is on him. So what've yall heard up there?

As for the whole 'fake covid vaccine card' that was the catalyst for the Sharks players to say f-k this guy (I think if he hadn't done that, that the locker room would have been solid alongside him), I have to wonder how someone with that kind of money and having the reputation of being shady couldn't Kane have just paid a doctor to sign him a legit 'fake' one. How did they investigate the card and realize it was fake? Anyone got intel on this?

As far as the vaccine card, you are missing most of the story. When that happened, he had already been waived by the Sharks to the AHL due to the gambling and domestic abuse allegations - and to a degree for having been a cancer in the locker room.

When he was in the AHL, he caught COVID and went under the 10 day protocol (12/20 +- a day if memory serves) and during that time he got on a plane to Canada for Christmas without being cleared by AHL doctors. Then he was unable to return to the team for a game on 1/2 or thereabouts because he was still suffering from COVID symptoms. It was through all that the NHL figured out he had submitted a fake vaccination record.

So no, the Sharks locker room had already turned against him well before being waived and he had done plenty of stuff to sour his relationship with the team before that.

Edmonton can hope that he realizes this is his last chance at getting an NHL salary and that maybe he will act like an adult, but based on his track record I am not sure even that can keep him from reverting to being himself.

I highly doubt a locker room lead by Logan Couture would have any issues with a fake vax card. They undoubtedly wanted him gone for a bunch of other reasons, summed up as him being a collasal piece of shit

Would not take him for free. Plenty of guys can skate and shoot and score, Evander is really nothing special in that regard. With the baggage he has and now his age and a hip injury? Doubt a lot of teams would take that risk at his AAV.

There is zero chance there is a single NHL team interested in acquiring Kane unless the Oilers are attaching a high draft pick or equivalent prospect roster player (like Broberg). Especially now with his mysterious injury that will likely keep him sidelined until the final day of the regular season at which point in time he'll miraculously heal in order to play in game 1 of the first round.

Kane's innate ability to cross check guys from behind in dangerous areas of the ice remains a thriving element of his game for Edmonton. He's still very capable at playing the dirty, uncontrolled hockey that defines his performances at this age.... and all other points of his NHL career.

For all the folks that feel that strongly about him, I'm surprised more folks don't just cite out why he is one, with great pleasure to just vent it.

I believe at the time (maybe still) buying, selling, or using a fake card could have been punishable by up to 5 years in prison, so I'm really sure how much clout Couture would have had in the decision to let go of Kane.

Yeah, the guy has developed a pretty poor reputation with his behaviour in the past, but he seems to have turned over a new leaf in Edmonton. He's trying hard to rehabilitate his image, and has made some surprise appearances at kids hockey tournaments and things like that too. He's putting in the effort to be a good citizen here.

I think the fact that he has a persistent ailment makes him untradeable. If he has to do surgery he's untradable. If he doesn't opt for it and decides to tough it out, he's untradable. And that ignores his sketchy character, age and declining play.

The NMC is a bigger issue, when he was in San Jose he was trying to get traded to Vancouver(his child/family). I don’t imagine he’s that keen on getting traded farther away from them.
