OT: TV & Movie thread: Part III

I'm watching Mad Men...those guys are busy...drinking -smoking - carousing. I find it hard to believe they had time for work. I'm in season 2 . It is a bit different show for me unlike Ray Donavan and Landman and the Jackal of late LOL....but it is enjoyable .
I've never gotten back to that show (think I watched most of season 1). I can say that that is exactly how things were in the late 50s, early 60s. The Three Martini lunch was a common occurrence.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm trying to get through Carry-On......for some reason my attention keeps wandering......it's almost comical the way they've got poor Taron running around that terminal.
I liked Carry-On. I just kept wondering once the police and homeland knew about the threat why not shut down the whole airport and jam all cell/radio signals till the device was found?

I saw Den of Thieves 2 today. I liked it, but liked the first one better. Some logic was thrown out the door, but the leads had good chemistry. Nice to see Genny and Pietro from Gomorrah in this one.

Silo episode 9: excellent. It's been a slow burn, but we finally get some movement right before the season finale.

I like reality competition shows. Season 40 of the Challenge was pretty good. I've been enjoying the Beast Games on Amazon.

I've also been re-watching Severance to get ready for s2. Ioved s1, but I feel like I have forgotten so much of it in these 3 years.

Silo can be difficult to get through....requires a lot of patience....almost gave up but I realized there's a lot of minutiae in the show that is useful -- and that helps keep me focused so I don't miss anything.

I was thinking the same thing about Severance. Can't wait for eps to drop.

Don't know how I missed Den of Thieves -- I've liked everything Butler has done....looked the Trailer and didn't even recognize Schreiber.....thanks for the "promo".

I’m becoming a big fan of Rebecca Ferguson.
I can relate -- didn't think much of her in the first few episodes -- didn't think she was much of an actress. But as the series progressed, I began to like her more. By the end of season 1, I thought her acting was quite good.

That karma vote was lame. Do not let losers with bitter feelings decide who wins and how much they win. I really hope they do not continue with that.

Hoping to get to Den of Thieves 2, Brutalist and September 5 next weekend.

Watched the first Den of Thieves last night again, feel like it’s the ultimate cable movie you put on any random weekend on the couch. Butler is great as Big Nick.

Such a great character. He is so menacing in that scene where his soon to be ex is on a date. Dude ate a donut on the ground of a crime scene. Not to mention when he sleeps with Merriman's gf.

I'm watching this miniseries called Black Doves that was recommended highly by a number of people. I will say that I am enjoying it.

However, there is one drawback which leads to the main question I have: why has going back and forth from the past to the present become such a popular technique? Seems like every show is using it...most to the detriment of what could be a really good story line?

Everyone is trying to be too clever. Linear timelines work better imo.

FInished Landman last night. I hope there is a season 2. You never know these days. Networks are quick to pull series if ratings/streams aren't high enough.

3 more episodes of Severance to go. I can't believe how much I forgot in 3 years, but I'm enjoying as much if not more this second time around.

Watched Anora because it's getting buzz. Went into without knowing a whole lot and it wasn't what I expected. It's a black comedy and a caper-type experience seeing shit go sideways fast for the characters. It is quite funny even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Fyi it's got lots of sex scenes in the first half of the movie, so definitely do not have children around.

Because sometimes plot threads are way too easy to spot if you know the backstory.
so the audience is left in suspense more.

It's really a shame. A flashback can be instrumental in moving a plot line along and/or explaining something that's currently happening. But interlaced plot lines from different time periods can be annoying and many times confusing. Best example of how NOT to use this technique is Dune Prophecy -- talk about a train wreck.

So sick of alternate timelines, parallel universes, travelling back in time, etc…, burnt.
