I was in Texas this weekend, for a reunion with my college buddies from the 80s. We were sitting on the back deck about 6-7 bourbons in and around 2am the topic of conversation switched to the Worst Christmas Song Ever Made....don't ask me why.

Our consensus was: Happy Christmas/War is Over by John Lennon and Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney.

We found it ironic that 2 of the greatest songwriters on arguably the greatest Rock N Roll band ever, completely whiffed on their Christmas songs....

Third place goes to Elton John's "Step Into Christmas" - one of the greatest songwriting duos (Elton & Bernie Taupin) ever and the best they could do is this dreck???? 🤮

We keep our thermostat at 72 like sane individuals

So you are a lizard! I feel like I know you much better now.

I had the fireplace on today and with that the living room got up to 66 and I had to swap my sweatshirt for a tee.

66 downstairs where we pretty live during the day.
62 upstairs in the bedrooms.

Just got oil today for first time since May. Very happy to see it down $1.00 / gal from last year. 25%.
I’ll take it.
We get 2 fill up a year....
About 200 gallons each time
One Oct, one March
And that's our hot water source too

72 on the thermostat seems to be the sweet spot here. I will crank it to 74 and then turn off the heat before bed so when I wake up it is about 68.

"Let there be light" now turns on three lamps in my very dark living room.

"Darkness please" turns them all off.

I love it so much.

Read where one guy set his up so that when he says "my wife is mad again" Alexa turns all the lights red and plays Darth Vader's Imperial March :laugh::laugh:

I don't miss oil heat one bit. $150/month for gas, sure it's year round but it beats a $500 oil bill every month all winter. I do strangely miss the rumble of the oil burner in the basement though. It used to lull me to sleep in my recliner. Oil burner ASMR

It's work in the warm season, but well worth it in the cold. The money we save is incredible.

One of my wood burning devices.

We have a mini-split and wood stove, with electric baseboard that goes on 3-5 times a year when its under -10F and I dont feel like making a fire in the middle of the night.

Other than that, our wood stove is soap stone and have a catalyst so it re-burns the smoke. Can usually go 12 hours, 8 hours if its under 10F.

We have a long ranch, with the mini split we shoot to keep the living room at 70f which makes the back bedroom 63. When the wood stove is on, each person opens or closes their doors depending on how cold they want for sleeping. Living room usually peaks at 75 but gets down to 65 in the morning. We burn about 2 cords a year, plus $100 for electric for the shoulder seasons. So $600 for heating, not bad.
