It certainly puts a new light on the Toffoli signing.

If we lose Gallagher for nothing, we're back to square one.

Nah, I would just trade him now for a LW. Why wait, everyone loves BG but is he going to be your 1st line RW moving forward? If so he better get to play with a different center thats for sure.

I dont see it that way. Numbering lines is such an old fashioned thing to do. I see it as we have 3 offensive lines, where Gally still plays with Tatar and Danault.

Whats the point of numbering lines if they all more or less get the same amount of ice time

Bad playoff
RW is now a strong position within the team (+Caufield)
He wants to be the best paid forward, that's more than 5.5
Petry accepted less money to stay
Wants to win?

so lets go 6 millions X 5

I had a feeling this was coming with everyone getting paid . Gally probably wants term and over 7 Million.

Hopefully a deal can be worked out thats team friendly but if nothing can be worked ... I hope MB does not lose him for nothing

It may just be the Habs camp saying : Hey looking at the market right now the contract offer would be 5 years x 5M, especially compared to Toffoli and last signings. We can wait 6 months to see how the market/NHL goes and we will negotiate based on better understanding of the short/medium term situation. This might help Gallagher get a "fair" price out of respect.
Problem is the anderson signing. If I am his agent, I point that out and say my client deserves more because he is better all around and we won't even get into what should be owed to him for his dirt cheap contract he is still on. Or he can point to drouin. Regardless of covid gally has value...value I would like to see a trade for. We can't afford him because of MBs terribad contracts and this might be a blessing in disguise.

We are over the cap, and things will get worse once the kids are off their first contract, which will happen during his new contract. KK has already burned 2 seasons. Trade him for prospects and picks, or old timer and picks, or maybe a package. Danaults entire line is problems and solutions WTR to contracts and timing. I would say move the line and get young. No sense paying that line 20-24 million when its clear they won't be our top line in a very short time.

They're in big trouble cap $$$. Too many RFAs to sign, etc.

And for that reason, they move two of their best core players for UFAs that will expect more money or leave without compensation? I don't think this is a deal that meets their needs at all and they can fix their cap issues without making this kind of move. Look at their recent UFA signings - a whole wack of relatively useless middle pairing and middle-six types that are being overpaid, but might be useful elsewhere.

To be fair, the refs job Gallagher more than most players I've seen. The guy took a crosscheck to the mouth, broke his jaw, and lost a bunch of teeth in the playoffs IN FRONT OF THE REF and it wasn't called. Then Niskanen gets suspended because even the league was like "yeah, we can't let that one go."

On the other side... How many times has Gally whined to the refs ? How many times has he dived or wtv ? ... He has a reputation and hes the one responsible for it.

If this continues well into the season, I just hope this doesn't cause a riff between Gallagher (Danault and Tatar also) and the new arrivals in Anderson and Toffoli. I still believe Gallagher is the main guy with Pacioretty second that got Subban traded. Gally has a lot of pull in the locker room and Domi was a glue guy imo. Let's hope that tight room doesn't get too affected by all the changes and contract talks.

This room wasnt tight, theres clearly a rift and Danault/Gally are pulling on one side with whoever on the other side.

Less than square one IMO. But it makes sense, MB usually doesn't add like this without letting someone go.

He's basically saying "I've got your replacement Gally. 6.5 or go elsewhere. No discount from you means you lack karakter unlike my chosen guys. I like loyal dogs, not selfish players who are like pit bulls or wolves. Where's my golden retriever...".

$6.5m × 8 is as high as Montreal should go: Kreider got a similar contract.

$5.5m (escrow is still at 20% so you want a lower amount first year), $8m, $8m, $8m, $6.5, $6m, $5m & $5m.

Thinks that's more than fair. I'm sure it's all about the bonuses too.

I'm really ok with trading him but doubt MB will. Ditto with Danault & Tatar.

Im alright with 6.5 but not for 8 years. He’s probably easily worth that in the first 4 years, it’s the back 4 I’m concerned with.
