In a Barred Spiral
It all depends on the deal of course. We're not in a position of need to trade him right now, so Vancouver or whoever wants him will have to pay up.

Love the player, but if the best decision for the org. is to take the deal, you take it.
Yup, my reasoning is the same. If Vancouver wants him the price is Podkolzin+1st+cap-dump for Gallagher extended.

UFA. What do you think you’re getting! Boeser? Ya no chance in hell

I'd take a futures package. Or just keep Gallagher. Bergevin has made some really questionable moves this offseason and I'd prefer that he'd stop now. Even without Gallagher, Montreal has 7 wingers as good as or better than Virtanen.

There would be (or actually is per Dreger) no shortage of interest. If Virtanen is the best Bergevin can do then Molson might as well save us some time and just fire him now.

I think the landscape has changed and Gally might be out of luck. We got him on a sweet heart deal and he likely wants to get paid, but with Covid he will be hard-pressed to get 6.5m plus on a longer term deal. I don’t think it’s in the cards.

That be a big blow to Habs if he walks next year always liked him and he plays with heart. Hope you guys get it sorted out if not would love for Canucks to take a run at him next year if available.
If Gallagher doesn't sign an extension he'll be traded before the season begins .

I think a new offfseason with more bad contracts being cleared and a whole new team in the NHL means the dynamics of this offseason wont quite be replicated. It might still not be in the cards, but this offseason is unique because teams couldn't really plan for it.

It would solve our cap space and have Armia on the 3rd line...
It would mean Tatar could be resign
It could be good to not own the little warrior for more than 3 more years due to tax body

Id take a 1st + a prospect for a sign and trade
This off season is Something

So do we, so why would be do what they want?
??? We have 4 RW Gallagher Anderson Toffoli
+ Caufield

They have boeser and Virtanen (that want too much money)

I trying to understand your point i just can’t

I trade Drouin before I trade Gallagher.

Drouin's value gonna be lower than Domi. We needed to add a 3rd to get a guy with many question marks over his head for Domi. At this point i'm not even sure Drouin actually has a value with his contract. He might actually be un-tradeable right now. Schmidt's cap hit is not much higher than Drouin and he's a good 200 foot LHD which usually holds more value than a soft and bad defensively small winger. If Schmidt was worth a 3rd round pick only in a situation where he had to be traded if we trade Drouin to extend Gallagher (other GMs will know it) the offers will be terrible.

The problem with Anderson's contract is that it pays for POTENTIAL. Gally wants to get paid based on ACHIEVEMENTS.

Communication breakdown, different expectations...??

Gallagher will want more than Drouin and Anderson. There's absolutely no doubt about it. How much more is the question. He'll probably want to be paid at least the same amount as Petry for more years since he's younger.

Next year's cap is not a problem. Without any movement you recoup 4 mill from Allen and 2 mill in Alzner buyout difference.

But the question is how many are comfortable with signing Gally long term? How much gas is left in the tank? The same that are bitching today would be the same that bitch if he would sign long term. Exactly what happened when Anderson was signed, a player that we could only dream of having with all our smurfs.

And BTW why isn't anyone questioning the leaking of the information? If Gally was a heart and soul team first guy, why would he approve such tactics? Nothing is fair and everyone going through contract negotiations this year has gotten screwed. Get used to the new reality in the NHL - look at how many players are still looking for crumbs. If Gally thought he was woth 7-8 years at 6 mill + before the pandemic - he is not getting anything close to that term or dollars.

I had a feeling that the long term deals of Anderson and Toffoli was Bergevin preparing himself to eventually unload Gallagher. Now the news today that the talks have broken off just strengthens that felling.
