The reality is, he’s a $5 million dollar player playing a role bigger then he should’ve been due to lack of talent in Montreal for so many years. Paying him $6+ million with term is ludicrous. I really feel he’ll test the market and find out quickly he’s not worth what he probably thinks he is.

I agree more or less but he’s be in the $5M range. But he’s also an important part of the team on and off the ice hence the premium. Not too much of one but he certainly earned some of one.

We brought in two top 6 forwards on the right side and already had Armia who can move up and down. We don’t need to pay a premium at this point. We have more important things to spend money on.

Gallagher is an important piece of the team, they better not fk this up. He needs to retire as a Habs.

What about if we signed long term at a lower cap hit? 7-8years between 5,25-5,75 per?

Structure his contract that’s it’s some what front loaded and with a larger number of teams where he can get traded his last 3 years.

Give him a long term contract with a good cap hit and if he's a cripple by the end then let he LTIR deal with it.

I'd be pissed if he gets traded because of Anderson. He's the heart and soul of the team and fans love him. He better not get the Koivu, Kovalev, Subban and Markov treatment.

Calling Gallagher a 5M player is nonsense on the same team with Drouin and Anderson at 5.5M.

He's a significantly better goal scorer than Kreider is and JVR was at the time they got 7M contracts and people are expecting him to take the same money as f***ing Drouin?

The team will survive without Gallagher's off-ice impact (whatever we imagine that to be). We need to be careful here. Unduly valuing intangibles only has the potential to make this contract look worse.

I sign Danault to an extension and trade Gallagher right now for a winger prospect who will probably be ready next year.

if Habs are not in the playoffs comes trade deadline, I trade Tatar for whatever picks we get. If we are in the playoffs, keep Tatar and let him go to UFA.

next year, you can sign Hall and bring Caufield and the prospect you get in exchange for Gallagher.

When will people understand we were 24th in the league this year with danault and gallagher as first liners...?

Habs were one point from Playoffs spot with the same combo the year before. Their stats were about the same (ppg) and still one of the best 5 on 5 line in NHL with Tatar. Problems were with other lines, the D and especially the goaltending (backup)

This is a direct result of the Anderson contract. Players like Danault and Gallagher are seeing this contract and thinking what the hell has this guy done over me to deserve this, and they are right. This will be very tricky for MB to manage. With Danault and Gallagher completely on board this year, the Habs could be competitive. If they are traded or pout like Domi, then we are back being a borderline playoff team.
There is absolutely no evidence of this. Neither player has spoken since the Anderson acquisition and contract.

Toffoli and Anderson's signing always signals to me that one of Tatar, Gallagher or Danault can't be resign or there was one of them with demands the Habs don't want to meet. Thought it was Tatar.....but now we know it's Gallagher.

I would not puch higher than 6.25M and that's generous. If Gally is looking for 7 or higher, well.....we can survive with Gallagher.
Having said that.....it's the time to take those decision if we want to cash the value left in those players.

IF he really wants to trade them away, he better grab 1st rounders and or young prospects with a very strong potential.

Maybe it's also time to bring back those Ehlers, Laine, Huberdeau and Mantha's rumours.
We got lots of pieces we can attach to a package....

Send him to Detroit for Mantha who is also not doing well with his new contract. Just a thought, although Vancouver probably excites Gallagher

I would keep Danault at all costs. There’s no way I want either Suzuki or KK to be burdened with shadowing other teams first centerman and defensive zone assignments.

...which is why I think we're hearing stuff from Gallagher's side. There's even a chance to see both Tatar and Gally leave.

We need Danault, as none of Poehling / Weal / Evans / Hillis are a short term solution at 3C. Maybe one of them will, on the medium to long term.

they wanted Subban ..but the salary he was making and the asking price, Benning balked at it .

Then(Benning) talked to the media about..lol..didn't go down too well..Bergy got upset with Benning , he (Jim Benning) got a $50,000 dollar fine.

Vancouver would be interested in Gally , yes,.
