I love Gally but I would not give him more than a 3 year deal.
Caufield is coming and we already have Toffoli and Anderson.

Colorado, already one of the best offense in the league, added Brandon Saad, don't think they're interested in a guy like Gallagher.I would like to trade Gallagher to Colorado for Alex Newhook who can play left wing or centre.

So, we keep them for one year. No extension.
Depth lasted one season.
I don't see Tatar being extended because I believe Caufield will replace him. Gallagher however I can see staying because he is a typical MB kind of player. We'll need to pay guys like Suzuki and Kotkaniemi eventually anyway...hockey is year to year when it comes to the salary cap but you can handcuff yourself with a bad contract which is why we have to be careful with Gallagher's deal.
there would be teams interested for sure, but there's next to zero chance we get equivalent player in return, not for just one year of Gallagher. They don't need Gally. But a team like Edmonton needs that type of player to support their young star players.
what are the chances GM of other teams sends you equivalent players on great contracts and al ? for one year of these guys ? come on now...

These are strange times, and I think it's a great indication of where this team is headed in the future! It feels weird to be in the position where we can talk about trading players because the lineup has become much stronger, the cupboard is no longer bare.
Tatar made it clear this summer he wants to test the market so if stays if we overpay big time...Odds are if we lose Gallagher, we're going to keep Tatar. And odds are if we lose Gallagher, we'll find some kind of cheaper replacement on the UFA market.
All of our UFAs aren't going to leave while the management sits on their hands and do nothing...
let's wait and see who will produce more: Tatar ? Drouin ? or Gallagher.
It's not about "short guys", it's about "short guys who play hard, get hit all the time, and have had a bunch of broken bones already".People are, in my view, over-thinking this. Gally is a 28 year old 30 goal scorer who brings an enormous amount to the team. He is the human intangible. Short guys don't last? I don't even know if that's backed up by stats, but even if it is, I say most short guys aren't like Gally. He's a player you keep. Period. He needs to be paid what he's worth. and that's probably $6 x 5 at least in my view.
one of the best offense in the league, already acquired a 50 pts player this summer, no chance they trade one of their top prospects for one year of Gallagher, come on now...Colorado....are in win now mode.
As well, Gallagher offers them offense and more sand paper in their lineup.

I've been hearing this for 27 years now...Goals and assists aren't the only metric though. Our team is obviously not a very top end talented team...our strength will be that scoring can come from any line.

This team lost its spark when he got injured during the playoffs. We need him more than some of you realize.
