Both should be secondary players, a second line winger, and a second pairing d-man
The Leads are a cup contender if they had a dman as gold as Tanev this year. This trade makes the Canucks worse.

I'm pretty sure Tanev is valued as a #1 defenseman so I highly doubt Vancouver is interested in that deal.

i can see the argument he is a top pairing defenseman but #1 defenseman imo are guys like weber, doughty, oel, suter, hedman, etc. i dont see tanev in that category.
Why don't we just re-sign Raymond without giving up trade assets. Sounds good to me as a Canucks fan.

He's a top pairing #2 defensive defenceman. You're correct, bona fide #1 Dmen need to be elite in all zones and put up strong offensive numbers along with strong defensive play.

Tanev is a #2.
Look how good him and reilly were at the world Championships.
They never had a goal scored against them the entire tournament. They were the top pairing for that team. If you put tanned with an Offensive D-man he is a #2.

There is absolutely no reason the Canucks do this. It's been discussed ad nauseum and doesn't work. He doesn't help a Canucks rebuild and walks in a couple years.
And your assessment of Tanev is way off. He is a bonafide top-pair calibre player. He's been going up against top competition every night for years. And still comes out as one of the literal best defensive defensemen in the NHL. And his PK skills are excellent to boot.

JVR for Tanev does not interest me (as a Canuck fan)... Tanev is more valuable to us than picking up JVR. As well, he's a solid #2 D which don't come around often.

I'll take Raymond for free over wasting more assets on projects or mediocre/garbage players.

Well, Hayes you could have for almost nothing. Maybe a 5th or 6th rounder but then he's all yours.
Spooner on the other hand has much more value but I'm sure both parts could work something out around a deal involving him.

I don't know if i'll live through another trade where we include picks and, more likely, overpay for a 20 goal scorer. This management needs to be burned down to the ground. We just need to ride out while the Sedins are still here (or trade them if its possible in anyway, cause i wanna see them win a cup) so the ***holes that are the owners see what purgatory looks like when the team is finishing last , year after year. I'm just so frustrated and amazed that such nonsense can happen in professional sports.

I think this is fair value with it maybe leaning towards favouring Vancouver. Gardiner is a #3 and Tanev is a #2. JVR is a top line winger and JV has the potential to be a and line Power forward.id be willing to overpay to get Tanev playing with Rielly
