Why would Drury have egg on his face? Gorton traded for and signed Trouba, not Drury.

Because if he's going to waive his captain he should have an assurance from another team out that that he will be claimed (as was surely the case with Goodrow). If he just waives Trouba and he clears and then is still captain of the team and nothing else happens, what does that accomplish?

"Won't someone please think of the Rangers" said no one as Adam Fox forced his way onto the team.

In the words of Mrs Garret: you take the good you take the bad...

The bolded is super cringey, not sure what you're reading or seeing that led you to such a comment.

Anyway, Trouba obviously has the right to make it difficult to move him be submitting teams he think could try and acquire him. On the other side of the coin, if you're really not wanted, how far are you going to go to stay on a team that clearly and "rightly" (in a lot of people's opinions) wants to move on from you. He could be waived, but if no one claims him, it will look pretty damn bad on New York.

It will be an interesting situation to follow....

This is all happening because NYC is desirable place to live. That cuts both ways

Pretty sure Columbus does this deal as well

Philly is a short train ride away. Columbus not so much. Unless you meant they would take the cheesesteaks. Send the 1st and I’ll get on it.

Hes not doing himself any favours by holding out until the ;last minute with his NTC list.

I understand he wasn't obligated to submit it earlier, but if you want Drury to get to you a team as close as possible to NYC, maybe work with him more. Also, had he had the list before teams started splurging in free agency. ,maybe something would've happened already to his benefit.

I don't think he wanted to be as close as possible to NYC, so much as he wanted to remain in NYC.

He also had to submit his no trade list to Drury by midnight on Monday, which was 12 hours before the start of UFA so Drury could've dealt him prior to any deals being signed.

He won't be coming to Canada, since his wife's specialty isn't recognized by our medical boards and her career is just as important to him (sorry for bringing the family up, just a statement of fact). All Canadian teams will therefore be on the NTC list, leaving 8 more.

What is his wife’s specialty?

"When Trouba signed this current seven-year, $56M contract in July of 2019 after having been acquired as a pending restricted free agent from Winnipeg, his five-year no-movement clause was designed to expire in conjunction with his wife Kelly Tyson-Trouba’s completion of her three-year residency at a New York hospital. ... But Dr. Tyson-Trouba’s residency was deferred for a year at the start so that the program which she is required to complete will end instead on July 1, 2025.
...
We are told that has become part of the league-wide conversation, with several teams that otherwise would have been in big-time on Trouba now likely to wait until next year when Dr. Tyson-Trouba’s residency ends with the defenseman having one final season on his contract.

I'm just trying to understand how this computes with the same sentence in the referenced article

"The anticipated trade to Detroit did not materialize after No. 8 handed in his 15-team no-trade list to GM Chris Drury as due on Monday."

He gave his trade list, isn't that an acknowledgement that his NMC has become a L-NTC? Is the implication he will fight as if he still has a NMC, despite handing over a trade list?

They almost certainly have an assurance that he’ll get claimed. That assurance is probably from the Sharks as the first team in waiver priority. Trouba will have to choose between San José and whatever trade can be materialized.

Yeah, and he specifically indicated to the Rangers through his actions (and presumably words), that he prioritized his family and providing them stability in his playing career.

To act like that makes him a bad or unreasonable guy is sour grapes. He's under absolutely no burden, contractually or morally to do the Rangers a solid here.
If he is going to be that way the Rangers can also play hardball also and just waive him because as you say it the Rangers don't have to do Trouba a solid either.

I'd put myself and my family above the team every time, every single time. Those who don't have never worked in a company before. You are disposable.

If you have leverage, use every single bit of it.

Ok, take less money in exchange for a full 8 year NMC if being in New York is so important to the family.

Sounds like he doesn't want to leave at all

I would guarantee that Winnipeg is on that list…likely #1 in bold and underlined…not that it matters because there should be a less than zero percent chance of Chevy wanting to bring him back
