I think this fills a need for both teams.

Trouba
Connor

For

Maatta
Pouliot
2017 2nd

Solves the Jets LHD problems and both are on great contracts, they have plenty of W depth. Pitt gets a good RHD and Connor can jump in the top 6 which needs help on the wings.

Adding Connor is laughable. Take him out and I'm still not sure WPG does it.

Why is everyone trying to pry Kyle Connor out of WPG all the sudden? He's a beast, I wouldn't dream of trading him after the season he just had at Michigan.

Yikes.

A combination of Josh Morrissey and Trouba solves Winnipeg's LD problem, and they don't need to make any trades to accomplish that.

No thanks from Winnipeg; pass.

No way in hell. If you take our Connor and the second, then there's something to talk about. But IDK if Pittsburgh should add more big contracts.

um. I understand trouba is a good young defensemen, but when did his value become so inflated that you dont think Winnipeg would accept Olli Maatta, Derrick Pouliot and a 2nd round pick for his RFA rights? This is ridiculous.

As for the trade as its written in the OP, I dont have much interest in it from PIT's perspective and i doubt WPG does either although i dont think the value is THAT far off.

Value wise, Maatta, a 2nd, and a 3rd should get it done but WPG fans don't want to move Trouba unless McDavid, Matthews, or Eichel is coming back. He's really overrated on these boards imho

ok then sign trouba. Clearly something is going on with that so dont act like everything is all peaches and cream when if it was a given that he is the future in WPG he'd have a contract right now

Maatta is the only piece with significant value. Pouliot may turn out to be a great player, but right now his value is extremely low because he has proven nothing at the NHL level. Pouliot and a very late 2nd are pieces that don't really belong in a discussion for a top-4 RHD.

Yes. It is that far off.
And of course you would accept that trade. You get a better defenseman and a blue chip prospect.

Come on. Don't be silly.

Yeah Cheveldayoff isn't trading Connor you can forget that. And Chevy doesn't need to add 2 D men in Maatta and Pouliot. Just Maatta should do the trick and then you're going to give Trouba around $6 million to $7 million long term good luck with that.

hey, that's unfair. I'd also trade him for Drew Doughty.

apparently Auston Matthews and Johnny Gaudreau are not the future in their franchises

So, by your logic... any RFA that hasn't been signed to this point has "something going on"?

I'd rather use the definition "young core piece for an up-and-coming team", but to each their own I guess.

I was unsure of Connors value since he's yet to play a NHL game so I apologize for that. But come on, Trouba does not hold that kind of value, Maatta is just as good, on a better contract and just won a cup.

I get that he is vital to your core, and is in a way what Rielly is to the leafs. But the absurdity that he's worth a generational/franchise centre is ridiculous. Imo Trouba could end up being a high-end 2, but he'll probably be a high end 3.

That's all true, but WPG could get better value from another team that overpays. There's no incentive for them to trade Trouba for Maatta straight up. WPG and PIT are not good partners for a trade like this.
