There's certainly somebody wildly out of touch here but I'm not convinced it's Trouba.

If the guy's seriously having issues like that, it needs to be taken seriously, and not just assumed to be a deflection 'cause you don't like what he does on-ice. (Heck, if he does need help and is able to get it, maybe that can put an end to the flying elbows...)

If he’s having issues like that the answer isn’t to be above criticism for your play while you make 8 mil elbowing people in the head and getting scored on.

There is a link between CTE and athlete suicide, and there is a link between elbows to the head and CTE.

Get help if you need it Trouba, but also f*** you.
Yeah but he's not pointing to that connection, essentially alleging criticism of athletes is driving them to suicide

I’m not sure he’s the out of touch one. Athletes are still human, he’s right the constant criticism can lead to depression and can get worse from there.
Or if one has such issues it can also lead to inappropriate and destructive behavior, such as, oh, say, lashing out at other players with flying elbows.

Obviously that doesn't justify said behavior even remotely, but by the same token, said behavior does not immediately mean he's lying and trying to cover his ass, like some folks seem to be doubling down on insisting is the case here.

Obviously he’s not making the connection, that’s the point of my post.

Like it’s absurd that Trouba is actively trying to blow players heads off when he plays then hops on twitter crying about people saying he sucks and shouldn’t be a team captain. Get help if the criticism bothers you, but also maybe stop trying to hurt players asshole.

What do you think your flying elbows are doing to players mental health dickhead?

I don't think he's lying, I just think he should be looking in the mirror first and foremost.

You won't get a lot of support for your mental health when you're actively and aggressively trying to make others' worse.

Oh, absolutely he should be looking at himself in such a case. But if that's the closest one can ever get to asking for help, mocking 'em for it is a dick move.

If he’s depressed it has nothing to do with Chiclets criticizing him for his, as you said, unjustifiable behaviour.

That shit contributes, and it may be the one thing he actually notices that prompts what amounts to a request for help or an acknowledgement that there's a problem. That's something that can lead to actually solving the problem and should be leveraged to do so, not mocked and snarled at.

I'm not saying "how dare Chiclets criticize him", I'm saying that concluding that this makes him, as you put it, "the biggest joke in the league" is massively f***ing unfair.

The league just gave him a "leadership" award dictated by a cheap shot artist (Mark Messier) who went out of his way to try and injure opposing star players with head injuries.

Trouba's confusion is emblematic of a league that is sending mixed messages.
