Player Discussion Trevor Zegras (Part II)

For all the "young" folk

Great interview.

It's crazy, not sure I have even grasped the magnitude of which Z is ALREADY changing the game of hockey. It's. Insane.

PS
I was afraid that after Getzy we might not have a star player that I respect so much, but Z is showing that I might not need to worry. He seems like a generally good person that cares for people around him. Of course he has his thing a bit, but even that chirping is so likeable

Rightfully the Ducks refused (so would I), but remember when some of us Sabres fans demanded this in the hypothetical Eichel trade and we were told we were crazy? I wonder if you guys were fine with the Eichel surgery how close this would have been to the completed trade.

Of course, had this happened you wouldn’t be watching the exciting team you have now. That’s at least two players you’d have had to replace up until Eichel would be back

Why would we have agreed to that trade when you clearly were willing to accept way less? Just shot yourself in the foot with the demand.

I’m fairly sure whatever Friedman is saying was pre-Entry draft. Because that’s probably when there were the most teams involved. Although I guess that’s starting extremely high and then coming down to close to the actual trade that happened in another dimension (and if you ascribe to that belief, there’s one where that was the return). The trade return I accepted on the main board where Anaheim got him was fair. A couple of Ducks fans had no problem with it.

We haven't even see Eichel play post-surgery.
Zegras cost controlled for many years vs 10mil a year Eichel. 4 years younger than Eichel.
I doubt Krebs will be more than a 2C type production.

As delusional as some of the trade ideas here considering what they actually accepted

I've talked to some coaches that say he is great to be around and really respectful of everyone, even assistants and support staff. He is also the first to give a kid a puck at practice.

We need to find a power forward that can play with him but also help protect him. Not a 4th liner, someone who can play
Id put carrick with him he is underrated offensively and they already had so much chemistry. Give it a try.... Put rakell with Getzlaf and Terry or even Lundestrom Silf again. If with Getzlaf and Terry then put Steel with silf and lundestrom... He fits their game much better.

It was a super quick decision then and is even quicker now. Just no chance, man.

And of you ask us if we would change our stance were Eichel sugery not so major, the you are entering a dreamland anyway. You can add "had Eichel had no injury problems and wouldn't miss a full season" as well

And we wouldn't do it anyway because we would gain this season and next (why we should do that? We are not contending) and then lose massively in the long term.

What he was worth to you was not the same value he was worth to us but we have been over this 10000 times but no one really listens. So, just go ahead and assume the trade happened or whatever, man

League would be saved from modernity as the Zegras/Dishigan never happened and Torts would be a happier person

No. That wasn’t my point. My point was that Ducks fans saying Sabres fans are delusional asking for that back when it started has shown that we weren’t delusional because the Sabres said that was what they wanted from Anaheim. Of course I take anything Friedman says with a grain of salt that’s the size of a salt lick, but you have to admit that we weren’t a batshit bunch of posters overvaluing someone. That’s all.

This isn’t really an either/or type situation. And as I said, the Ducks rightfully refused. So would I if I were a GM

Haha. With Bob Murray as GM at the time. There was absolutely no chance he would ever take on a $10M contract for 8 years. BM was the quintessential value guy.

McDavid might have been the only exception.
