Hopefully he does less during the season. His play fell off with all the media he was doing after “the goal” last year.
I tend to agree with this sentiment. Maybe I'm too "old school" like Tortorella in this regard, but I want to refer to another post which said something like Z was working in practice on something 10 times crazier than the Michigan. I don't want him doing that; I want him working on becoming an elite passer, who can make passes of all types, and becoming an elite sniper. He has the skill to excel at both, and I don't want him spending time on stuff that works once when he can be building skills that will last a career. Just me and my old school hockey though . . .

Can tell you guys a little bit about Bedford, NY. Upscale town in northern westchester county, nice , classy area. Who else lives among Bedford? There is this dude Rob Thomas, no not the guy from the St Louis Blues, but the dude from that group Matchbox twenty.

My point is Z comes from a good family and his family has supported him over the years. Now he can cash in and take care of his family and the kid has a heart of gold and it’s just a nice story.

Until he stops progressing as a professional, I’d say the coaching staff and Zegras know better than us internet folks. That hasn’t happened yet, so let Z be Z.
I don’t care, at all, if he’s working on trick/fancy plays in practice, and in fact would encourage it. What I do care about is that he DID stop progressing, and in fact regressed, when he was doing the mega-media blitz tour during the season last year.

His focus should be 100% on his hockey, not his brand.

I would like to see stats that back this claim.

Edit: He had 22 points in 25 games, .88 PPG, then 39 points in 50, .78 PPG. 25th game was the Milano goal. So slight decrease, but he had 4 game stretch with 8 points in that first 25 games. Not really huge drop off in production, especially considering we had a really easy first half the season that resulted in a 8 game win streak.

Zegras had 16 points in the 11 games prior to the Buffalo goal with Milano, going scoreless in 3 of them. Only 2 of those teams total weren’t playoff teams.

In the 17 games between the Buffalo goal and the All Star game. Zegras had 10 points, but was pointless in 11 of them. 8 of those teams were not playoff teams, and 7 of his points came against those teams.

You say streaky, I say looked significantly less focused and effective, and I said it at the time.

Edit - as to your edit, Zegras did not start the year off strong, the team was being carried by Zegras and Terry. Look at his play the month before, and then the span between that goal and the All Star game, which is the period I was referring to, not the entire season. Looking at it in two blocks ignores the fact that he startrted the season poorly and ended it well, and makes it look like there wasn’t a sharp contrast in how he was performing as he became a media darling.
