I like Freddy (for his smarts mostly), and have always like Freddy, but the Bruins are only going to have $11m in cap space. Don't handcuff yourself in free agency by signing Frederic. Use all of that $11m to land a whale: Rantanen, Ehlers, someone who is a legit 1st line talent.

You can't let Frederic walk either. Teams froth at the mouth for 'rugged' middle6 depth players. I get letting UFA's walk when you're a Cup contender, but when you're just in the mix and your prospect pool is shallow you can't let a UFA walk out the door.

Where are you getting 11? My math shows much higher. Granted they're going to need to sign or resign 9 guys or something of that order.

Just pointing out the irony in you being offended by other fans' criticisms of Frederic in the Frederic thread, when your entire shtick revolves around leveling criticism toward a different player.
Is this what you are are calling being "offended" ? You brought up Coyle in the "frederic" thread lol see the irony in that?

I dont like Coyle the player that not a shtick thats a fact. It obviously offends you. Do you want to try to convince me on why I should like the player, is it the one assist being a second line center? or the one even strenth goals?

Fill me in so I get it right

Trent Frederic isn't good enough to coast. If he's not scoring, which he isn't, he should be trying to be physical and get engaged, draw a penalty, and he hasn't. He's not good enough to wait and hope things change, he has to assert himself and make that happen himself.
Not going to happen.

Frederic has been basically meh his entire time here.

He is what he is.

Again, package with Geekie and a tweener prospect, get the best deal you can, and high tail it post haste.

Do you really think Frederic has a high hockey IQ?

No expert but I don't see it. Again, certainly not consistently.

I can't say he puts the fear of god in me either.

So what value, exactly, does he have for the Boston Bruins at this point?

Trade him forthwith.

Yes. He can play any position, he understands and adjusts to systems and roles quickly, he’s a subtle passer, a smart defensive player, he has a disruptive stick, he kills penalties, he’s a good 5on5 player, he plays well with other smart players like Poitras. I wouldn’t say he has a “high IQ” like a Bergeron or even Lindholm but I think he has a good IQ, like a Heinen or Coyle.

Hell baby
What happened to the guy who told Tommy Cross he was gonna use his entire AHL fight quota on him after a dirty hit? The guy who dummied Tanev in his first game? He used to be a mean guy. He’s grown complacent.

I want the version that was in Subban's face. The guy who was mixing it up with Wilson. The guy who was levelling Rangers around the ice all night.

The version we have right now is essentially Jordan Caron.

After you sign the 9 or 10 free agents we have, we’re at about $85m. The cap could be as high as $95-$97m so, $96 - $85 = $11.

I genuinely don't think they're signing the 9-10, as a starting point. So tough math to do based on that. But I understand how you approached it.

My sense is they'll spend the money with more 900-1.2M deals in the bottom 6, and 6-7M in the top. And probably keep the deals in the 2-3 year range where possible.

So less of the 2-3-4-5m deals eating the top 9 up with 15g guys

I figure Marchand, Kastelic, Lohrei, Beecher and Brazeau are locks to be re-signed, regardless of how the team does. That's about $11m for 5 guys.

The rest of the guys, Koepke, Wotherspoon etc you can hope will sign for around $1m but whether you sign them or someone else it doesn't change their cap situation much. You still need 5 more guys at $5m total just to get to the league minimum roster.

That puts you at ~$85m.

It certainly possible that I am not paying proper attention to his game.

To me, it just seems like he disappears. Low impact.

But that's me.
