I don't care where he goes. Far away from Boston. 8+ years now of talking about this players potential because he drops the gloves from time-to-time. I give him some credit for standing up for his teammates.

His physicality isn't the issue. He finishes his checks consistently enough. Now most of the time these hits are inconsequential and well after the puck is gone, but he's adequately physical. He was never going to be Milan Lucic like some think he should be.

His issue has always been everything else. His first few strides are awful, always long elongate strides, not quick strides to get up to speed fast. Consistently beaten to loose pucks. Lateral movement, side-to-side agility are also terrible.

He's an OK defensive player but nothing special. His offensive IQ is poor and he's a disaster with the puck on his stick in the offensive zone. No Bruins misses simple easy pass receptions like he does. He's good for 2-3 passes a game that he can't get his stick on that he should. His puck pick-ups are barely NHL caliber. Has a decent wrist shot but never uses it. I don't think he's ever scored a goal off a slapper or one-timer.

If there are teams out there who see value in this soon-to-be UFA Sweeney should be all over it. Instead he'll likely extend him because they think he fits the vision of what they want to do here.
I disagree with a lot of this but don't have the time this week, so I will just say I think he is a very good complimentary player. I think he is struggling because he's not a line driver and no one else he's playing with this year is able to drive a line.

I think the one complaint I have is he is pretty well average at most things, doesn't really excel in one area over the other

Isn't that the issue though? He's supposed to be this "power forward" but when does he use his power game to his advantage? That's supposed to be his above average skill-set.

When does he ever use his big frame to power the puck to the net? Come down the off-wing, drop the shoulder and push off defenders for a scoring chance? He's never been a consistent net front presence either.

Honestly if there had been a regime change here since he was drafted I think he's already long gone. Instead he's Neely and Sweeney's binky because he hits a bit and fights middle-weights.

You say that now but he’ll end up a panther and be a nightmare
He absolutely will. For their fans. Because of his low hockey iq and propensity to do really stupid shit at times.:naughty:

I never gave an opinion either way, nor will I now. I only questioned OP's statement that a large number of prospects go elsewhere and become different players, which is complete bullshit. Matter of fact, I can count far more that go elsewhere and regress.
I hear you on that. And like I said, the problem isn’t them drafting guys and botching their development and then seeing them succeed elsewhere. The problem is usually that they draft dudes that don’t develop and then end up leaving and flushing out of the league shortly there after.

He loves it here, you can tell in his interviews.

What would you do if he finishes with 12 goals and 20 assists, for 32 pts? Player and team give him a 2 year bridge to play out of it? This was to be a big contract to him, maybe his last shot at a truly big one. Tricky spot.

Move him at the deadline if we’re out of it

Hopefully he starts playing like he does.

I'd do that in a minute, but why would Utah?

I don't know what Utah are thinking but Crouse's production has taken a massive nosedive. Just one point since the 12th of October. Of his 4 points, 3 came in his first two games. I drafted him fairly high in my hockey pool where hits are a weekly stat and he was one of the best combos of points + hits available based on last couple seasons but I finally had to give up on him this week and dropped him. Can't wait any longer for him to turn it around.

Frederic is outscoring him thus far and doesn't have two years left on his deal like Crouse.

But Crouse is only a -1, compared to Freddy's -11.

Beyond production, though, Crouse (at least when I've watched which is a fair amount, though nothing like I've been able to watch Freddy) actually brings an energy game more consistently, so when he is not scoring he is still affecting the play on the ice. Trent floats and runs around not doing much far too often, so when he is not scoring, which he really isn't right now, he is invisible.

Personally I'd take Crouse over Frederic everyday of the week and twice on Sundays for the reasons you mentioned but Utah have got to be concerned with his production.

At least Crouse is physical during the play and doesn't start being tough until a whistle is blown. That's what Trent Frederic does. "Oh, a whistle, let me grab you by the collar and do nothing!"

In my opinion, the Bruins shouldn't commit to Frederic long-term especially at a higher cap hit. If the Bruins decide to move him, which I wouldn't be oppose to them doing, teams can just wait until the offseason to sign him instead of trading for him which means the Bruins will not get much value for him in a trade especially in a down year.

You wonder if he is hitting that Lucic wall

Maybe, he just turned 27 and I wouldn't say he's got a lot of mileage on him. 500+ regular season games but his only playoff games were in that awful bubble tournament in 2020. It's a bit bizarre actually considering it's a pretty similar team to last year.

He seems like the perfect candidate to sell high on the potential we now know he will not realize but other teams may still dream of. Disappointing more often than not, more inconsistent than Debrusk, hits as hard as Shawn Thornton (all due respect). Much of his value is overstated.

People should watch how Mark Kastelic hits. Always through the player's body, makes good contact every time. Frederic's hits are like a light breeze in comparison, rarely gets a solid lick on his opponent.

His effort is so inconsistent. That game where he scored 2 goals against St. Louis is case in point. Scores two goals, looks to be turning the corner, but then takes an extremely lazy penalty on a completely avoidable cross-check to the lower-back hip area on Perunovich. One of the NHL's smallest D-men, and 6'3 200+ lb. Frederic decides to take a cheap shot instead of just using his size/strength to separate the puck cleanly. Such a frustrating player.

Bruins will probably move him being a free agent seasons end.

Is it shit on Frederic week? Utah would put Crouse in an uber to make that swap. You Freddy haters are at least entertaining.
Agree with everything but the entertaining part.

He's having a tough season for sure but hardly alone there. He's a complimentary player who's most common line mates this year have been Poitras and Geekie.

He looks to be trying to work his way out of it, lead team with 5 shots in just 13 min against Detroit. Got to think Sacco and some stability will get him back on track.

the hit on rasmussen the other night was exactly this. he rocked that big kid.
Freddy barely gets to the hit these days and if he does it's late, the puck is already gone.
