I fought for him so long on here back when posters here wanted to waive him. It has been rewarding seeing him w 8pts in last 6 games.
He seems better as a shooter than physical presence though which is kinda weird when you consider how he came into the league.

I was one of those posters. And I can’t even guarantee I won’t be that guy again at some point.

But what you said about him becoming more of an offensive player rather than physical presence is dead on. He’s showing me (and all of us) something in terms of offensive instincts and talent level lately.

Really not what I saw coming at all a couple years back. He’s making doubters/naysayers like me look very silly. I don’t even feel like I can resort to the “…yeah but what about the playoffs” rebuttal right now. He deserves a ton of kudos.

I hope he can do both. Power forward style. Be that physical presence who isn't afraid to muck it up, but also be a scorer and get greasy goals. There's room for players like that in the league. He's balancing it a bit right now. He doesn't need to be one or the other. Combine both. He seems to be getting it.

He was raised in the NTDP program and is one of 5 kids all Div 1 athletes and I believe only one playing hockey

Jay Leach over and over said he’s got skills- ain’t that right @Saxon Eric….and underrated skater with a great - yes great shot

He also said he’s tough

He said gotta be patient with this guy

Sweeney got him for 2 years but he’s likely going to get paid down the line

As well as consistency. This season by far has the most impactful games of his career. Can he increase the frequency a bit more as he has plenty of invisible games on a team that desperately relies on him to step up in the physical games.

Finish more hits is always going to be an ask. He shies away from finishing hits too often. He does not need to fight (often).

When playing with pace he actually has more talent than advertised.

I think Trouba knocked off the invisibility cloak when he went all Turk on him in NY (combining Harry Potter & GoT for @Mione134)

He hasn’t been invisible in 3 weeks

Do you think he is a modern day power forward?

What players would you compare him to? (active players or those who have already finished their career)

As someone said earlier, he seems like the kind of player teams would want. The kind of player teams are looking for at the trade deadline. Physicality, size and nowadays also offensive. And he probably hasn't even reached his full potential yet.

He's a player many here would want if he was on another team, but instead he gets shit on a lot because he isn't Terry O'Reilly or Cam Neely. He's turning into a very good player. Power forward? I don't know- I don't think the old school definition of that really fits today's NHL with a couple of rare outliers. That said, he is big, strong, has a bit of nasty in his game, goes to the dirty areas, has good wheels, and good hands. If that's what a new era power forward is, then yep. His only downside is not punching enough faces, I guess.

I love how in the gdt we were like “ah that’s Jeannot nobody wants a piece of him” and then Trent immediately hits and injures him.

His game has really grown.

He seemed so goofy a couple of years ago but now has been solid.

Does anyone have a vid of the hit? I was cooking while it happened so I saw it the first time around but never the replay.
