I put his trade deadline return at a mid 2nd round pick. Bigger guys with some touch and a “reputation” for toughness get a premium return at TDL leading into the playoffs. His actual on ice value this year is more like a 3rd rounder return level.

For where the Bruins are today and the cap nightmare they are facing with the aging vets, they are better off keeping him for the stretch run and hoping he snaps back vs taking the potential 2nd rounder.

My one hope is that they don’t keep him and then overpay him in AAV and term on a new deal this summer.

I think we'd be lucky to get a 2nd rounder at this point, honestly.

You've got a guy who is about to be a UFA that will have the opportunity to take as much as he can get from any of the 32 teams this summer. His production this season has been hugely underwhelming. What Cup-bound team is willing to give up a legitimate asset for a guy who has been a no-show in recent history and who they will likely struggle to sign this coming offseason?

It's not like Fred is a 35 year old vet with a proven track record that is struggling with points on a mediocre team this season. He's an "energy guy" that isn't providing energy or points. He's likely a depth guy for a team making a run. Again, what kind of assets are you getting in return for that role? Something, but not enough to where you won't have half this board complaining and calling Sweeney an idiot for not getting a better return.

Piggy backing off of your last sentence (the ultimate concern), unless they sign him to a new, absolute steal of a contract (I'm talking what he's making now or under in terms of AAV...which won't happen), they need to fetch an asset for him. Not interested in paying top dollar for him (whatever that is) this summer on the UFA market.

That's what I was thinking. A 2nd rounder at best. More than likely for a good team, so a late second round pick. Oh well. that's better than locking him up for years.

It all comes down to the beautiful simplicity of this - TF is a guy who should have been motivated to have his best season (after 2 decent ones) in hopes of cashing in big time as a UFA. Instead, he looks lifeless.

Could you imagine what his output would look like if he actually secured a nice contract?

My feeling is that he doesn't get moved this season. If he does, it think it would be right at the TDL. He has ~60 days or 30 games to get it in gear and I suspect Sweeney and Co. are interested in giving him at least that much time to see if it happens. I do think they ride it out with him and then he walks as a FA. What's the track record with Sweeney and pending UFAs? Who was the last one that he knew wasn't coming back but got moved ahead of that?

If you weren't sure if your employer wanted to keep you or not, you were shuffled around from department to department working in tandem with different employees all the time, my guess is that your performance would also suffer quite a bit - I don't like the makeup of the Brazzeau/TFred/Wahlstrom line but it's not surprising that for the last few games Trent has played much better given the new stability.

He was wanted as evidenced by the fact that Sweeney opened negotiations with him on an extension over the summer. Trent is in a contract year knowing that if he wants to get the deal he is asking for, he needs to play well. It's not a great look for him if he is folding up the tents because he doesn't have a new deal. The line shuffling he is experiencing is down in no small part to the fact that the team is trying to get him going as well. Then again, I haven't thought he has played much better. He has been marginally better, but I guess given how the season has gone for him, the bar is pretty low now.

No offense, but if I didn't know better I would expect you are Trent's mom.

Regardless, just in case you are right, I hope the meanies back off so Trent can blossom forth like the proud Easter Lilly we all know he can be.

"opened negotiations" doesn't mean much when you don't know what was offered - also, what is Sweeney going to say when someone asks if he has had talks with agents during the season? "No we don't plan on having Frederic back, we're going to look to move him during the year." The Krug fiasco, the denial of off season surgeries and other stuff should make one wary of whatever Sweeney says ... and I'm not a Sweeney basher

Actually I'm DeBrusk's mom and am so happy to read on this board that all of you haters are now so happy that my boy is doing well! Any messages I can send Grizz's mom?

Fair point but he also could have just done his normal comment of no comment. Whatever was offered Trent is needing a good season in a contract year in his first UFA deal and is not delivering it. Sweeney’s offer, revolving teammates have little to do with him playing hard on a nightly basis. I am not so much concerned with his lack of production but the floating of which he had done far too much season.

I agree that Frederic has been underwhelming and needs to prove he deserves a good contract and is invisible far too much for what he is capable of bringing and has in the past but the amount of vitriol thrown his way has been exaggerated I think - wish Grizz and DeBrusk were still here to deflect some of the hate .. that said, the Bruins miss BOTH Jake and Grizz

There's always a whipping boy or two here. It's Trent's turn in the barrel. And we do miss both Grizz and Jake. I was always a Grizz fan in particular and thought he got far too much crap here.
