I remember getting roasted on here for suggesting trading/upgrading Freddy + for Barbashev back in February 2023 before he went to Vegas.

Present day- folks are ready to carry him out of the garden themselves

Judging by the box score, probably theirs?

Odd flex. It's amazing what he can do with two terrible wingers who have actually produced points in the last 11 games.

Hell, get Frederic to center Pastrnak, he might score 70.
Not a flex, an honest question. But if you're going by the box score I guess you missed the game. They looked good. Two games in a row I thought the 3rd line looked strong.

I’m no Frederic fan but maybe it would be best just to keep him . He won’t have any leverage when negotiating a new deal and he’s not likely to bring much back in a trade . Keep him and hope he can improve next year?

Huh? How did you read my post and think I was in any way arguing that his sparse PK usage was a good thing? I was agreeing with you…
Yes, I glanced quickly and misread. Apologies.,

What constitutes “looked good” in your view? I’m asking because I want to better understand your criteria and what you consider the threshold is for looking good before responding.

I forgot to add that he would have some leverage because he can sign where he wants and Bruins would get nothing then which would turn fans on management ..Sweeney cannot let it come to that.Either find a deal that's fair or trade him.

He’s a UFA and should be entering his prime. He also a guy who has show a fairly high ceiling in terms of effectiveness (even if it only comes in maddeningly rare spurts). On the open market as a UFA, he will inevitably produce a small scale bidding war and has some leverage in that position. Unless it’s surprisingly small numbers, I’m not looking to try to be the winner of that war. We had our dip into the UFA madness this summer with Zadorov and Lindholm. Regardless of how you feel about those players, it’s usually pretty rough financially speaking competing against that many other teams. Really have to weigh risk.

Classic avoidance because he knows the criteria he's using is paper thin and actually agenda driven. Freddy sucked today, yet again. Zero impact. Nearly 16 minutes of TOI and all of one shot and one hit. Lost more faceoffs than he won. Largely invisible out there most shifts. He's simply not effective and I'd give him a night off to see if that lit a fire in him. He's just so passive.

The smart move would be to trade him now and get something because this version of the player is not worth what he's going to want and possibly get on the free market.

Being out of shape and a lack of effort are almost identical phenomena to me relative to those who play sports professionally.
Thats fair lol being out of shape is a lack of effort. Always thought Maroon looked way out of shape though and somehow he made the effort to contribute

It's not a measure of defensive play.

When it wasn't the worst, it was because he was playing better. Pretty easy to figure, no?
I saw a post in here saying he's bad defensively pointing to +/- which is where this came from.

I still see it as more of a stat for the team. We had a hugely positive goal differential the last two seasons which is why a good majority of guys were much better +/- than this year. I don't really see it as showing an individual is playing better.

For one example Gryz's high +/- here i think can be more equated to playing with Mac/Bergy line often since it started getting worse as soon as they started moving him off of Macs pair and Bergy retired.

Freddy was a better player in February of 2023. People don't want to trade 25-year-old guys that seem to be coming into their own as players.

I love it Dom!! I'll be more than happy to not post in this thread next year. Hopefully it will be due to Freddy rebounding and contributing offensively. That will at least hopefully reduce the amount of mental gymnastics by several posters here, therefore reducing my need to refute the stupid.

I wish you and the family nothing but happiness and success in the coming year, my friend!

The third line looked good tonight because two of them hustled and played their asses off. That will always help a line. Imagine what might have been had the third guy on that line played with the same jam.

Just a question of what'd they'd give up to either rent him or have first crack at signing him. I don't see him as holding all much value as a rental but who knows maybe there are a couple GMs out there who have big eyes for him.
The deadline lately has shown that teams will overpay for a player. Been pretty shocked at some of the players getting a return of a 1st or 2nd round pick lately. Preferably I'd want a hockey trade of an NHL player coming to Boston. But more like a pick.
