Ah yes, the old “he’s overpaid but there are worse players making more” excuse for a bad deal. Solid way to run your team. Or not. Yeah, not.
The other one I like is when people try to spin his continued ineffectiveness as a good thing. “If he keeps this up, he’ll be cheaper to resign!”

Player Discussion - Trent Frederic

The post I was thinking of was authored by none other than…drumroll…YOU! #1185 on 11/27/24.

“Amazing you can say his contract is the issue with a straight face. If that were the case his struggles are only going to make the next contract cheaper, and he's already far outperformed the one he's on.”

You can not forget the fact he is a UFA at season end. Is he a player you think the Bruins should invest in long term? We know this is a matter of at what cost. From what I see he is a player that should be moved this season , if there is an expectable return available
Anyone could be moved if there is an acceptable return I guess.

I think it's dangerous to evaluate only on these 30ish games instead of the totality of his tenure, and I'm sure the Bruins management wouldn't do that. He's been pretty bad this year no doubt. But dumping him for picks that won't help for 4-5 years doesn't make any sense either. He's certainly a player I would extend at an appropriate AAV, and I hope they do. Obviously if they're way way off in negotiations, then that's a different story.

That's pretty funny.

Thought starting the sentence with "If that were the case.." would communicate disagreement with the idea.

I think he's gone either way - if he plays well he'll price himself out (just takes one GM) and if he continues to struggle they won't want him back anyway. But what do I know.

This I agree with

That's one more than Coyle has on the year. Why do you think his thread isn't as active with hair splitting stats?
Making 2x+ more too- that’s the part that baffles me. There are actual top 6 guys making a lot of money and producing pretty much the same and they don’t get half the shit Frederic gets (Coyle, Zacha, etc). They’re not even on the first page at all here

Because one is looking for an extension and one is already locked in? I mean anyone here would love to deal Coyle I am sure.

This. If Coyle continues to be subpar going into next season, his thread will blow up because his contract will be expiring and Bruins will have to make the same sort of decision.

Not to turn this into the Coyle thread, but I think he's got a lot more supporters. Folks were talking about how he should take over Lindholms spot and what a good decision it was to bump him up to the top 6 last night.

I'm not rooting against anyone and genuinely wonder what's ailing Coyle if it's his body or between the ears.

Might could be.

Coyle only has one over the top irrational hatred poster where Frederic has 4-5.

I find it ironic that Brazeau gets virtually no criticism despite having zero toughness for a big guy and being pretty mid over the past several weeks.
Brazeau's finishes heavy hits are generally - scrums are also rare when he is in the crease due to his size alone.

He was never expected to add fighting toughness. I see no irony.

Frederic has one of the lowest thresholds to impress fans out of any Bruins player. Effort and finish heavy hits. Simple. That is why he is focused on at least by myself. He is inconsistent even with those. The scoring is a bonus.

Perceived effort might the highest bar because only the person watching controls it.

I've never cared much for the fan perspectives that label players lazy or indifferent. There are probably some cases where it is true and plain to see, but generally, not being out on the ice with them, it's hard to know. Krejci was the GOAT 'lazy" player, but his career says otherwise. I don't know that Trent is lazy or isn't trying; he probably is giving what he can in the moment. It's just that he's been really ineffective this season, and because of that, he has little to positive impact in games most nights, and that can make him appear lazy. For all we know he is carrying an injury, or has a serious case of the yips, or has something going on in his personal life that has him distracted and unable to focus properly. Who knows?

I consolidate all the Canadian teams into 3 teams

Montreal
Toronto
Vancouver

No way Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, and I think that’s there is another (7 right? They can’t be any good if I can’t remember who they are) should have teams in small markets

We need to keep at 32 so if we see adding Houston, Phoenix, Hamilton, Atlanta in US we need to take away 4
Woah. Put some respect on the flames franchise.

There is at least 10 teams that generate less money.

Edmonton is a small market but makes a ton of money too.

I’m not huge on adding new Canadian teams though. We don’t need another team in a market with less than a million people. I’m all for adding more American teams in huge cities to try and gain interest in the sport. The key is making sure the new teams win. The real issue with the coyotes was how bad that team was for so long. Why would anyone want to watch the local team that’s bad for its entire existence?

Edit: Also Winnipeg is the team you’re missing. I consider them very good. But I hate the market

Toronto area needs another team so we can beat up on two toronto teams instead of 1...too bad the Leafs will continually block a new franchise in the area...as is their right

The mental gymnastics some folks do here makes my head spin. If a guy is ineffective he’s ineffective. Why is that hard to admit for some people?
Too early in the season to do a victory lap on Korpi but not too early to dunk on Freddy and ignore his past 2 seasons?

I'm not doing a victory lap at all. If you recall, I erroneously called him scoring 20 this year in a response to you directly before the season started in this very thread. So him playing this poorly shows you what I know...LOFL

It is because of the last 2 seasons that people have flipped on Freddy. I'm annoyed at his play this season and am fine with him being traded or re-signed depending on the numbers. He needs to stop spot picking and figure out how much of an edge he wants to play with.
