Meanwhile the #1 task on his todo list, sign 34 remains outstanding and he allowed the NMCs to kick in July 1st. He's passed the tests so far but not by much for me. We continue to wait for his next move(s) and to see what we have in October.
I doubt that was his #1 task.

I think he is taking us to the next deadline July 1st 2024. This is going to go all year. Lol

They aren’t done, they are going to have a few PTO’s and we are going to have kids pushing to make the team. McMann, Robertson, Steeves are 3 guys who are skilled enough to make the Leafs and might force the leafs to waive Lafferty or trade him. Maybe Niemela, Villaneuve, Cowan or Minten also impress. I don’t think the leafs are done at all. Lots of jobs to be won in camp.

That's the thing there aren't lots of jobs to be won at camp there is potentially ONE and It's Lafferty.

You might say Reaves but he got a 3 year deal his spot is secure so baring an injury there is one spot and right now Lafferty has it.

Now if they got Tatar in here on a PTO then maybe Jarnkrok job is in trouble but Beyond that It's only really Lafferty

I think they would waive reaves and not think twice about it.

If I had more confidence in Treliving having the freedom to do what he really wants I'd have more optimism for the outlook of this team.

Right now it looks like they're gonna burn off the last year of Matthews, Nylander's, and Keefe's contracts. Maybe those guys will all be back again after. Maybe not.

It's a shame Treliving's first year is looking a bit of a waste.

I would have liked to see him make a bold move. He can still do it. There's still time.

There's no reason he can't still surprise fans somehow with a big trade.

Nylander for Hellebuyck.
I agree 100%...
Trev's hands are tied & his strings are being pulled. Shanny has to go.

Why would they give Reaves a 3 year deal only to waive him before he plays a game?

Unless you believe they gave him a 3 year deal because why not?

I don't think teams just hand out 3 year deals for no reason

teams hand out awful contracts all the time, I really think the leafs didn't think they were getting Bertuzzi and Domi. Remember both circled back. Additionally Reaves said he had other offers but it was the 3 year deal that made him sign. Leafs gave him the 3 to get him to choose Toronto

When Dubas was here I always felt like he was the one pulling the strings.

That Shanahan was just a rubber stamp. Whether that was true, or not, no longer matters. I think it's pretty clear Shanahan is hands on with Treliving.

I wonder just how many of the offseason moves, along with the accompanying identity transformation, were his doing.

We'll never know, of course. I suspect he was heavily involved. The pressure on Shanahan this year is immense.

If it were my ass on the line I wouldn't trust Treliving to come in this offseason and change the air freshener without my approval.

Let lone anything about the team.

The defense is what worrys me the most , gotta improve

Team defense has been a strength over the years and offense has dried up when it mattered.

Everyone we added is bad defensively, some amongst the worst in the league, but they are going to help offensively.

Hopefully, it balances out and we get some big offensive boosts without sacrificing too much, but another thing to consider is I think Samsanov has some of the best stats for stopping high-danger chances, so maybe they are also leaning into that, he's very athletic.

Eh, based on Reeves interviews on free agency, seems as if the team was pretty aggressive at getting him signed.

I expect he'll he a firm regular in the lineup this season

y'know, with that 3 year term and somewhat inflated salary, I wonder if Reaves was advised that he could/would be put on waivers and often demoted to the Marlies between games to help with Cap problems? He would NOT lose any money during the times he was assigned to AHL and they probably wouldn't have him play any games...just like when Simmonds was demoted several times last season!

I preferred the play of Lafferty to Jarnkrok's during the 2023 playoffs. Although Jarnkrok scored 20 last season for the first time and was a reliable two way player in the regular season, I think his biggest contribution in the upcoming season would be the penalty killing because the Leafs have not added in the off season the type of forwards you want killing penalties. BT has indirectly made Jarnkrok (and Lafferty) a more valuable cog than he was last season. If Jarnkrok is dealt there should be a way in theory to find a functional penalty killing winger for half the money. There could be growing pains making this happen with a younger and/or cheaper player but it would be worth it to make the cap situation work. Knies has the reach and mobility to be an NHL penalty killer but there would be a learning curve. Perhaps Jarnkrok could be traded for established NHL PK specialist making half his salary.

Nylander for Hellebuyck.

There’s no evidence to support the idea that Treliving doesn’t want to do exactly what they’re doing.

Same team but now with Tyson Barrie 2.0 and a few tough guys that won't be allowed to show it on a team that seems to have a policy against toughness. I'm having trouble seeing how this was a tremendous free agency.

Bertuzzi - Very exciting acquisition. Hopefully we can enjoy it and not worry about his next contract every time he scores
Domi - Good signing
Klingberg - Boom or bust. The profile of the player and the cap hit isn't the best, but the boom potential is enticing. It's only one year, this is fine to moderately good-ish for now.
Reaves - Feels like we should've just hired an assistant coach with these qualities based on what is being said about off-ice qualities.
Samsonov - Nice.

Departures
ROR/Accari/Schenn/Bunting - Ouch.
Holl/Kerfoot - Thank god.
LTIR - Murray - Thank god

?????

domi and bertuzzi have a combined iq of 50. this team is ass.
That means they will be more focus on their job instead of being side tracked, lol

Wonder if this season is going to be ONE Day like the past few years or it is finally going to be Day ONE

Bertuzzi replaces Bunting which I think most people would agree is an upgrade.
Domi replaces Kerfoot which I think most people would agree is an upgrade.

I think Tre probably has a few more pieces to tinker with but given the amount of time he has been here, I think he is doing ok.

I think the biggest issue is that without Matthews and Nylander signed, BT could not do anything too drastic as he is not sure what his cap situation will look like. Any GM in Toronto would be in the same position. Those clowns need to sign but it sounds like each once the other to go first.

Personally, I think they will sign AM and see about Willie as they have Bertuzzi as a replacement.
If Bertuzzi fits in and producing without any anomalies like crazy shooting % or tip in %. While willing to sign at 7-8mil, Willie will most likely be traded to get more depth or a Dman to round out the team.
