At this point, the Flyers probably view giving a player a NMC a benefit for organization. It means they’re loyal to the crest. Nothing matters more than that.

God forbid a player ever exercises it though. Then you’re shunned for ever.

Kinda get the feeling the team thinks a player asking for it proves loyalty, when really they're likely ensuring control over their own destiny. It ain't altruistic but they probably always hope/think it is, and they should not.

TK's centers the last three years:
5x5
Couterier 797
Laughton 764
Hayes 557
Frost 546
N Cates 489

Now compare his production with Guentzel.

I said last offseason Briere had made some baby steps in the right direction, but much more was needed for me to think they had actually changed. One thing I mentioned was trading one or more of TK, Laughton, or Hart. Whelp. New Era of the same old shit. And I love TK.

Oh well. On a personal level, at least the last jersey I bought (and maybe ever will, at this point) will still be relevant for 8 more years. Not like I've worn it more than a couple times, but still. Small victories.

And hey, @Rich Nixon at least you know you'll never lack for writing material. The Flyers well is a bottomless pit.

If our PP was just normal, his pts would go up 5-10 so whatever.

At least he is likable.

Crazy rebuild. 2 RW's signed for 8 years each with Michkov.

What an era.
If he could find a Center to play with that can actually score goals he would be more productive. Goal scoring from the Center position cannot continue to be a problem if they want to do anything this coming season

I think 2027-28 is when they expect to become competitive as in top 8 quality.
By then, the top picks in 2025 should arrive, or the players acquired in trades for those picks.

Farabee (27) - Luchanko (21) - Michkov (22)
Tippett (28) - Frost (28) - TK (30)
Foerster (25) - Couts (35) - Brink (26)
Avon (24) - Poehling (29) - Tuomaala (24)
Bump (23) - Rizzo (26) - Barkey (22) - Berglund (21) - Ruohonen (21) - Desnoyers (25)

York (26) - Sanheim (31)
Andrae (25) - Drysdale (25)/Bonk (22)
McDonald (25) - Sotheran (22)

Ersson (27) - Zavragin (22) - Bjarnason (22) - Kolosov (25)

Obviously, there will be changes, they'll probably make a major trade or two.
But even 3 years from now, this will be one of the younger teams in the league.

That's a bottom 10 team

Yup, I'll be cooking up on the myth of the Flyers cap situation tonight. There sure are a lot of people convinced that they are in a good spot when they...aren't.

Pretty sure they think they're going to be competitive now. That's the only reason to keep everyone they have.

“When you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does…Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way.”

-Briere

I’ve made this point before that the Flyers were religiously anti-NTC before Fletcher. It was Giroux previously, and that’s it. Even Voracek signed a max deal with no NTC. Ever since Fletcher arrived (and we know Briere+Flahr is a direct continuation), they giddily hand out NTCs like candy. Even to 4th liners. I remember when Minnesota got bit in the ass in the expansion draft because of this. They simply don’t care and have a NTC fetish.
Preserve the culture.

Being a NHL GM is easy. Have a 25 year old RW score 53 points? Chuck him $50 million, and max term. Have a 27 year old RW score 68 points? Throw $70 million at him, and do it early so you take on a full nine years worth of risk. No imagination required.

Being GM of this team would be so damned easy.

Offer every complimentary player already on the team under 30 max term contracts. Offer every 4th liner and 3rd pairing damn already on the team 2 year extensions. Sprinkle in NMC/NTCs whenever possible.

I feel you could write a script that does the Flyers entire GM job in a couple hours.

You know it’s bad when EVERY prospect is assumed to hit in a daydreamy future projected lineup — with the rebuild over — and it still looks like utter crap. Half those guys will bust/underperform or get sold low (Frost in a 2027 lineup!).

Yeah even Charlie was saying today on his podcast the Flyers are backing themselves into a position where they’re going to need a lot of luck with the path their headed down right now.

I wonder if Draisaitl can see the Brinks Truck with a beautiful blue IBX logo on it getting ready to back up to his front door. This “strategy” we’re executing only really makes sense if we acquire a top center via FA. Luchanko slots in as the #3 (eventual #2), Couturier starts out as the #2 and slides to the #3 as he ages).

Still have to somehow find a #1D and pray one of the goalies is an above average starter.

It’s not much of a strategy but it’s really the only way any of this makes sense.

The quicker you all understand that the Flyers ownership doesn’t care all that much about winning and that the men at the top of the hockey ops department are woefully unqualified, the sooner the healing can begin.

This team is destined to flounder in mediocrity for the next decade and probably beyond. I’ll hang out here cause I like a lot of you degenerates and I dig spending time in the Quackverse, but when it comes to the Flyers, it’s time to stop giving a shit.

The Flyers would need to offer $14M AAV to get someone like Draisaitl. There’s no other reason for him to join a C tier franchise. I’ll post Briere’s words of wisdom for the 2nd time today:

“When you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does…Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way.”

They are hilariously upfront about how they want to build their team at the amateur and professional levels.
