I think Jacques was implementing alot of the things that Green (hopefully) will be able to install, so we had a bit of a headstart in that regard. Maybe less of an acclimation process at the beginning of the season?
Well Jacques probably liked what he heard/saw when they interviewed Green. I'd assume he saw some similarities in what Green will or said he will deploy in terms of coaching tactics.

Lmao Sens PR is doing damage control.

Holy shit

Is anything ever good enough for you?

Except Brannstrom

It sure sounds like Green is cut from a similar cloth as Tortorella. A coach a lof of people here would have liked.

Well, he says the right things, he speaks of some hard school knocks treatment of players in unwritten words. This could be good. I will look at this as positive. At least we did not end up with some junior, minor hockey or AHL coach trying out his luck in coaching in the NHL. I suppose he has some pedigree of playing close to 1000 games and working with some decent coaches.

Green said the right kinda things at the presser, not that that is any high bar to clear. It's easy to say the right things, no one tells you they're not good at what they do during interviews etc.

We'll see. Lots of pressure to win, especially early in the season. I think by December we'll have some firm opinions formed, even if that is not 'fair' to Green. It's the reality for this team, market, and fanbase given the mixed reception on this hire.

If things go sideways and it's clear this hire is not a fit (or the team just underperforms) IMO that's a big huge target on Staios, not so much Green. It was a controversial decision, and one that was far off the path they had set up for fans in terms of expectations (experienced, winning coach).

I like Staios' demeanor (stoic, calm, stable) relative to the goofy ass clown show we've been treated to the past 7 years. Can't see this guy looking for high fives and hugs in the locker room after a trade. But I can't say I'm impressed with any actual moves so far from Staios, Green hire included. This offseason is going to determine a lot about how Staios will be judged for the remainder of his tenure, these are still 'first impression' times for Staios. I hope he gets it right.

I didn't expect anything else, but he came across well in his first interaction with Sens media. Talking about learning from past coaches, not only the good but the bad and what he wouldn't do was refreshing. The proof will be in the pudding, but it's a good start.

I'd rather he have free reign to bring in his own staff, but it sounds like Staois is going to have a lot of say in that. If it means Gruden coming on as an assistant it might end up working for the best.
Or it might not.

Not when you factor training camp, preseason. Should be more than enough time.
I'd give a new coach at least half a season before assessing his capabilities.

I guess if you're hiring Brind'Amour or something. I'm not sure what exactly Green's system is.
Hopefully it will include covering a man in our defensive zone rather than watching the puck.

To be this confident about a coach that you really dont know much about is next level stuff. Because someone trusts someone, that knows way more about hockey than you do, is now a contrarian?... An entire hockey ops that interviewed 10 candidates. You feel you are in a better position to choose a candidate eh. Over 2000 NHL games played between them... Then we can listen to multiple sources that played for them and actually trust their opinion. to the point where were willing to give the person a chance. Again people that know way more hockey than you do. Are not falling in line in what you think is correct makes people contrarians. haha ok!
Nepotism rules the world. It's not about what you know, but who you know a lot of the time. I find it hard to believe that Green was the absolute best candidate. But, what do I know? Currently we have a fanbase that needs to see the playoffs or Andlauer will be losing a lot more than he's gaining with this team. This fanbase is rightfully frustrated and angry after missing the playoffs since 2017. Almost a decade of missing the playoffs will make a fanbase angry. We want results and to me Green hasn't shown a lot of results at the NHL level.

I am willing to change my tune if I see a different team in October. If I see the same team, I am not going give Green a lot of leash as a fan.

And let's be clear - in defending Travis Green, Darren Dreger is carrying water for his former TSN buddy Dave Poulin. He does Poulin a solid by pushing back on the negative talk on Green, and in exchange Poulin feeds him some inside gossip occasionally from around the league. That's how these relationships work.

I can still remember Dreger assuring all of us that there was "strong interest" in Chris Neil as a UFA in late June of the year when Neiler had to retire. It was painfully obvious that Dreger was chumming the waters for Neiler's agent, trying to prompt some interest from around the league. In exchange, the agent feeds Dreger inside dirt once in a while.

I feel like Charlie Brown after trying to kick the football from Lucy for the umpteenth time. I believed in this new ownership and management group and really thought that they were going to deliver change. I actually got taken in a bit by the "Best in Class" talk. And now we get....Travis Green, the kind of coach you get when you are either on a budget, no one wants to come to your city, or both. It's just so disheartening...

Who decides who is the best?

A lot of people may argue that Berube was the best but I'd argue they are wrong.

The whole "only the best is good enough" mentality is total whack.

He's carrying water because it feels like a lot of our fanbase is having a complete meltdown and is unwilling to step away from the ledge.

It is done, let's see what happens next.

Sure he better perform, just like our players.
Clean slate here for me, not going to spend the next 4 months shitting on something that hasn’t happened yet.
Neither will I. But currently we don't have anything to talk about, because our team isn't in the playoffs. So until I see the presser and listen to Green speak, I'm going to drop the hammer for a few hours. At least when I'm not pouring silicone or doing other things related to business.

Looks like one of the reasons they hired him is because he can be ass but in a fair way.

I'm all for that. This group has been spoiled too long.
It’s the reason he was viewed as a shitty coach in Vancouver. He was hard on the players and they were too immature to buy in.

He was hard on Pettersson and Hughes and they were being prima donna’s, according to the Canucks beat writers.

Now that they are in their mid 20’s and mature they are ready to be coached and are buying into that kind of a coach in Tocchet.

Our core are not kids anymore, it’s time that they buy in and get whipped into shape. Green will take each player to the woodshed if need be, and he will go to bat for them. Work hard and play hard and you’ll be rewarded. Play like Chabot or others have been and you’ll be stapled to the bench.

Tocchet was used by some as an example of what the Sens should have done instead of bringing back Martin. Could it be that the team thinks they have the next Tocchet in Green?

Travis seems like an airhead similarly to DJ but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

A guy like Julien or Quenneville seem more 'mature' and pragmatic. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.
People need to stop mentioning quenneville.

Damn you going after your boy chabot here.

Green and Tocchet are good friends and talk hockey often. I think they would stress very similar things and their styles will be similar as well.

He is not at all similar to DJ.

Julien is the one guy I think should have take a deep dive with. As far as I know he was not interviewed.. could be wrong.
Maybe his age was a factor. Maybe his last stint in Montreal was a factor when Andlauer had a share.

I am not negative about Green. I think he'll do a good job here.

Tocchet said it took the end of last year plus training camp. Boucher said 2-3 months. I guess it depends on the player.
Boucher was incredibly detailed

Anyone else with a guess?

Given the circumstances I’ve come around. I think he was one of the best options for this team rn

You can see why the org thought he was a good fit based on those comments, though you can build similar lists for a lot of the options out there
Enjoy the view
