Waived: Travis Boyd (Update - Claimed by Vancouver)

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
He basically came as advertised, although his production was probably better than many expected.

He has some skill and can score points playing a bottom-six role but doesn't bring much outside of offense.

I'd like to have him clear waivers, but players like this are expendable and they come and go.

Another one of Dubas' value signings being sent overboard. If somebody took Vesey, somebody will take Boyd. At some point Dubas needs to admit that he cannot build a team with 4 forwards taking up 1/2 the cap, especially with one of them playing like he has aged 5 years since the start of the season.

What?

As things stand we can't afford much in our bottom 6 and as such all we can do is sign players making the minimum to $1.5M. So far he hit on Bogo, Spezza and Simmonds. Missed with Lehtonen, Barabonov, Vesey, Boyd, Petan, and Malgin. Jury out on Jumbo but he is starting to show his age. Next year after he gives Hyman his raise he will go bargain hunting again. It will not work.

hey dubas need some depth in case of injuries man. don't get this move? did boyd asked to be traded or what?

He is opening up cap space. Boyd is not good enough to keep on the roster full time. If they did it with Vesey, then they were definitely going to do it with Boyd. Boyd is a worse player.

I am mostly surprised it did not happen earlier.

have to make space for incoming better player(s). it's nothing to get upset about. the 4th line will be stacked with the guys we already have if a top 6 guy is brought in.

Having so much depth that we're forced to waive viable NHL players is evidence that we don't have enough depth. Science!

Sure Vesey was great depth. I liked Boyd but apparently he is not good enough not to waive. I prefer quality over quantity and truth is we do not have much after our top 6 forwards.

and things like "HUGE" mistake...its laughable

For real! It’s pretty obvious these are cap moves to prep for the trade deadline.

Would the Dubas haters just like him to do nothing? I guess it’s easy to just criticize everything.

this is a cap move only. If he clears he is good for another 10 games or 30 days without having to go thru waivers to be put on the taxi squad. You either save his cap hit if he is claimed or he gets thru to be put on the taxi squad.

They still have Petan, Barabanov, Agostino plus any deadline depth forward they could acquire.

Nothing wrong with the move

He was aright. Didnt like him in DZ. King of PDO too. I think he'll clear. If he doesn't, I wish him the best moving forward. He also ate a lot of big hits in his short time here and got back up like nothing happened. Strong mfer.

I thought Boyd is a useful player, but it's no great loss if he is claimed on waivers. There's an abundant supply of marginal NHL players. They're a dime a dozen.

Waivers are for the benefit of the player. If players like Leivo, Lehtonen, Vesey, Boyd, Hutchinson and Brooks, for example, can't stick with the Leafs' NHL roster, then I'm always quite happy that the player should get a shot on another NHL roster whether that comes about by way of a trade or waiver claim. I like all these players, and would like to see them all have productive NHL careers.

This move tells me that there were probably no trade offers for this player anyway.

I'll be honest I still really don't see it with Engvall. Maybe at times but overall, not really. He's just ok

There is a reason Keefe has been a bit harder on Engvall. He can be a freaking stud when on. Keefe knows that, he has been coaching him for awhile now. If he uses his hockey smarts and gives 100 the guy is a great player, I don't know how a bunch of guys here think he is so bad. Some bad games here and there yea but who doesn't have those? You will be hard pressed to find someone like him for the price. Those lanky arms and legs have use.
