Half the guys (and gals) on this forum could do a better job, I'm sure of this. How does this guy keep his job? Not wishing him ill, good for him that he landed this gig. But man, You could grab any freshman journalism student that can formulate questions without even knowing hockey. Cerny is so nervous and unsure of himself.

I was referring to hockey interviews in general (and mainly player responses), but yeah Cerny is definitely awkward.

I'd rather listen to him then EJ Hradek though. I'd pay good money to punch that idiot in the face.

Cerny is an awful interviewer, his questions take five minutes to ask and then it turns out it was a yes/no question. He himself talks for like 70% of the interview.

Got to give him some points for enthusiasm but it's like the same questions over and over for everybody new to the organization.

"Hi Robert, we have passed along some misinformation. The New York Rangers hockey club was interested in live streaming, however it is just a consideration at this point. If that gets confirmed, we will let you know."

Where is the roster already?
Nice analysis by Cwede but I think there will be a few more unknown and a few less established names on the roster. Do not see Miller, Jean or Busnevich on the team for different reasons. Maybe Miller btw...

Like I said, roster will be less established than many thought
But interesting team nonetheless especially considering that the following interesting players are NYR property and also prospects of he organisation ( in theory also could have played in TC):

Forwards
JT Miller
Chris Kreider
Marek Hrivik
Bo Nieves
Steven Fogarty
Adam Tambelleni
Pawel Buchnevich
Jason "Killer" Wilson

D-Men
Dylan McIllraith
Brady Skjei
Calle Andersson

Goaltenders
Jason Missiaen

Jim Cerny used to work at Sportsphone. Before the internet, you would call Sportsphone 212-976-something to get the latest scores or trades. Then Cerny did a hockey radio show on Friday nights on an AM station on the right side of the dial. All the way on the right. Some small station. They would have hockey trivia. I answered a Rangers question and they sent me a Flyers T-shirt.

 wow they could have at least sent you some Rangers merchandise...

I don't mind Cerny.

He seems to be working hard and I think he got a decent feel for the game.

I agree with you Ola. I really don't think he is all that bad. I think he asks fair questions. Questions that dig into the player's thoughts more, questions I want to ask, say, when we acquire new players and we want to know how they feel about NY. But he also asks questions regarding the game that are meaningful a majority of the time.

If you truly think he is that bad, you should listen to Waldman, and the carousel of butch women the yankees have hired to do pre and post game interviews the past 3-4 years.

he is one of the better people working for the Rangers organization.... i also dont mind Lackey (whatever is name is) be grateful us fans dont have to listen to Mike Crispino on a regular basis or Chico Resche

I don't have a problem with Cerny per se--his stuff is a bit lame though. It is what it is. The Rangers want to give us as much feel good stuff as possible--fluffy propagandistic happy stuff. Cerny's good at it. I'd be happy hanging out with the players all the time myself--and getting paid too? WTF! Anyways--he doesn't resemble Bob Page but the likes of Dolan can't handle anything at all negative.

Even if he could, Cerny's job IS to be a vanilla yes man reporter. It's not like he's saying "If Dolan wasn't such a nutter I could really spread my wings here and ask some hard hitting questions!" No, that's not his job. He does his job well.

Do people really expect Cerny to go out and ask a controversial question? If you couldn't have figured that out by now you're essentially just banging your head against the wall.

I don't expect him to be Larry Brooks, but he is far too "fanboy-ish" for my tastes. Has a tendency to gush and be redundant which can make for an awkward listen. Look he seems like a good guy and it could be worse, but there is no doubt his interviews are often uncomfortable.

Not banging my head against the wall at all. I actually like most of his interviews even if there is very little of substance about them. A bit of anti-intellectualism is good for the soul. The comment is directed at how the team prefers to express itself to its fans. I don't think I've attacked Mr. Cerny in any way or called him out as horrible or any such thing. Maybe you should reread that post.

Blegh. I really enjoyed the coverage MSG had two years ago.

Pretty sure Dylan McIlrath called Dave Maloney "dude" after one his interviews too

I think this is a poor decision, but I'm sure the execs at MSG know better.
