We are lucky defensively with how young our varsity guys are which is why I'm not concerned.

But goaltending is a disgrace and biron is horrific. God forbid something happens to hank

I like talbot he should be an NHL backup IMO

But we are playing with fire we've ignored drafting legit goalie prospects since al Montoya that was what in 06? I'm not sure his draft year.

But it's not ok to keep letting talented goalies go elsewhere

As far as Kovalev27's concern for goalies, even if we do not have the sevices of Henrik, we can always sign someone to fill the gap temporarily until Henrik returns or until we find a proper replacement. Plenty of teams in the league have holes in goaltending depth.

Biron is living off a good first half to his first year as a ranger. He has been awful since and lost the trust of the coaches to play practically at all last season. He has slowed down immensely. I personally wouldn't have re-signed him at all.

There are alot of teams with goaltending holes. Very true. And we were one of them for 7 years which coincidentally or not is how long we were out of the playoff picture.

We should be looking for our next franchise goalie every draft at least for te past 3 years IMO and we haven't.

That move by MTL was brilliant. Boston too grabbing subban who I really like. Pitt drafted a good young guy. Markstrom will also be a stud. We are playing with fire

The only good news I see in this tourney is that Fast Lindberg Kristo are dominating which they should but u never know with these things

MSC has done nothing apparently. Very disappointing

Was hoping to see Anthony Duclair on the score sheet more i think he's gonna be a steal

That's okay. We'll have our best shot when we go all in and all out on the 2nd last place championship.

The Rangers didn't really have many goaltending holes during the dark years. We had Richter, a lull, and Dunham. It was the rest of the team that was the problem.

Also, Biron didn't lose the confidence of the coaches. They made a calculated choice regarding Lundqvist, whose play wasn't at it's best at the beginning of the year, to keep playing him to get him out of his funk. By the time he did, we were into the stretch and Biron wasn't ever going to play then anyway. On top of that, Lundqvist still played less games last season, including playoffs, than he would have in a normal regular season. He didn't need the rest Biron is there to provide.

Anyway, as for drafting goalies. The Rangers drafted a goalie in the 2nd round a few years back. It turned out to be a terrible idea. I've looked at the numbers on this. Less than half the starting goalies in the league were drafted in the first two rounds. As many starting goalies were undrafted as were first rounders. And besides, Skapski is 19 years old. I'm pretty sure Lundqvist would have gotten lit up in this tournament too at age 19.

Nobody even mentioned Lindberg scored again?? From Kristo again.

Rangers losing 4-1

Perhaps you missed it, but it has been mentioned by the Rangers (Gordie Clark perhaps) that in the 2012 draft we were keen on taking Andrei Vasilevski in the 1st round. However, he was selected 19th overall, so we ended up drafting Brady Skjei at 28. The organization is clearly interested in adding goaltending talent, but sometimes you don't get what you want. Fortunately in our case we're likely ok in that department for the next half dozen years or so.

It was 04 dude; he had one really good junior tournament and the "Teflon GM" fell in love with him! Duh!!

Bro by that time richter was shot 2 acl tears and the concussions. Your next best goalie u named was mike Dunham. A career backup. Case closed

Goaltending was a problem from the days richters knees gave out till the day hank arrived. That's not even debatable.

The rest will all due respect is just inaccurate or silly. Half the players in the league are not 2nd or 1st rounders but the best are for the most part.

And many stsrting goalies weren't even drafted? Just completely not accurate. This is like Fox News reporting here. The Tim Thomas' of the world are rare as are the lundqvists and rinnes

I heard that and be would have been a solid choice. But we take one shot and say oh well? Unacceptable

That was only one draft ago and it's not like we had any high picks this past draft. It's not taking one shot and in previous years drafting a goalie wasn't as big of a need. Montoya was drafted before we even had Henrik as a starter and the Rangers went with a goaltender in the second round in 2007 with Antoine Lafleur. You can probably guess how that turned. We have picks in this upcoming draft, we didn't really have any last season.

Who said we said oh well? Perhaps they didn't see anyone they were enamored with this year...when we were without some high draft picks. Regardless, whoever they select will take 4 or 5 years to develop...so if you're going to invest it makes sense to get the right guy. Just as importantly, you can get one as a UFA or in trade for reasonable assets if needed. We're fine in the starting goalie department.
