some flashes from the more interesting prospects but ultimately hampered by the fact that they couldn't play as a team worth a damn

I caught only portion of the 3rd period I thought I saw Gross looking pretty good on the PP, good skating, passing and stickhandling.

The way I will be watching this team this year is by looking for the former and not caring about the latter. As far as I can tell, it’s the only good way to approach this team this season. If they do figure out how to put up some wins, all the better, but it doesn’t matter if they do. That’s not what this season is about.

Agree, though I hope with a training camp and practices we see more cohesion than a short prospect tournament

As someone who has had no time to watch this tourney this year...which prospects have stood out?

Who has been the NYR best player?

Couldnt care less about W/L

I'd say Andersson and Howden have stood out. Glaring error today aside, I'd say Hajek has stood out.

Chytil has not asserted himself thus far.

Lindgren has shown some flashes, but has looked particularly raw. I get the sense he's trying too hard.

Meskanen has shown hints of his full potential. Lindqvist left me wanting a bit more.

I thought Keane has shown hints of where his trajectory might take him.

Day continues to look like a kid who has a higher probability of struggling against faster competition. Ronning has not lit the world on fire.

Jakob Stukel deserves a longer look.

I think....with hajek...and I wanna be careful....I think we may be a little too quick to talk about all the good he does out there, while completely ignoring his failings.

I think hajeks highs have been very high...and I think his lows have been...really really bad.

I haven't had much time to catch the whole tournament but after watching him today, there's no way he can handle it as an NHL D right now IMO.

With regards to Chytil: I only seen the second game they played, but he looked like a disinterested man among boys. He'd rush at will and then disappear for a while before getting the puck and beating a couple guys again.

He played up to his competition last season, hopefully come training camp he will do so again.

Blues playing for 7th? But I thought they had an amazing team too! :naughty:

Didn't the RW guys say that most of the teams were 1-1 going into Game 3 of the tourney?

I did not watch all the games, only parts of some of them, but other than the players being mentioned I thought Crawley showed some glimpses of good play.

I agree. He’s been a bit more hot and cold for me.

It’s weird, I feel that there are certain prospects for whom our views skew to the positive - Kravtsov and Hajek come to mind.

There are prospects we tend to view with a degree of trepidation - Howden and Shestyorkin seem to fall into this category.

Then there are prospects that will likely find themselves under the microscope a bit more - Andersson, Lindbom, to a lesser extent Miller will probably fall into this ballpark.

That’s not to say Hajek hasn’t been good and at times very good after the deadline and in this tournament. I just can’t help but shake the feeling that every bit of good gets bonus points and some of the glaring bad gets dismissed quickly.

However, based on past experiences, the prospects we tend to “protect” in our minds tend to be the prospects and young players this board turns on a little quicker when said player can’t live up to the image people have quietly built in their heads.

To some extent what you’re seeing is a bit of a glimpse into how both Andersson and Chytil operate.

Andersson is a kid who doesn’t really look flashy out there, and doesn’t leap off the ice at you. But he’s usually good for a consistent effort and will do other things if the points aren’t there for him.

Chytil is a kid who can step up and has the potential to take over a game. But it all comes down to asserting himself and engaging. That’s still a bit of a work in progress, though it’s come a long way.

I’d argue that Kravtsov is somewhat similar to Chytil in the sense that his game has more ebb and flow, and the key to his long-term success will be a certain chip on his shoulder that he’s more talented than a lot of the players he’s competing against.

YOU MUST BE JOKING... THE PLUM TWINS ARE THE WINGS' NHL REGULAR ANNOUNCERS????????? looooool

No, this was not the Wings regular NHL announcers. The WingsTV broadcast announcers are Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond. This prospect tourney has Ken Kal doing the play by play with Art Regner adding color.
