Are people really overreacting to Shestys game after one game in the crapshoot of a tournament?

How about we wait until we see him in a structured system? :dunno:
Great post, the overreacting is just ridiculous.
Another thing, those who are old enough to have seen Brian Leetch play his first camp and pre season would have said “ this kid sure likes to take a lot of chances “. Take it easy on Adam Fox and enjoy the talent level he brings and how he will fit in

I couldn’t see yesterday’s game due to work, but I did read some of the thread. I’m not panicking, but Igor seems to have had a rough game. Could be nothing. Could be that he’s slightly overhyped and this is the first sign. I’m almost positive that it’s the former, and I still think of him as the best goalie prospect in the world (or at least top 3), but I think the adjustment period will take a bit. I keep thinking of the Samsonov hype. I really really really hope I’m wrong. It’s just frustrating that we suck so bad at this tournament, no matter how good our prospect pool is.

Just like when you replied to inferno, a lot of this doesn't make sense as a response to the post you quoted. It's like you are reading things we aren;t even saying and attributing a general criticism of the board to us for no reason other than we aren't 100% in lockstep with your thoughts

Especially your second sentence. Nothing in my post matches what you're saying there

As for your last sentence, that seems extremely simplistic. It suggests that there are only a very small, negligible handful of blunders when there clearly weren't in what was a really bad game to almost any reasonable observer. It's just an intellectual and conversational non starter. It implies all criticism and thought is invalid bc of some arbitrary measure you decided on. Also care? Define "care"? Care at all? Or care enough to make simple comments? idk Ola why would a board full of hockey prospect enthusiasts care enough to make simple comments about hockey prospects in a hockey prospect tournament? Why would we make comments about prospects we've literally waited years to see?

I could go on but you just aren't being honest here and I don't know why so I'll just cut off here.

Hmm, regarding the bolded part — that was exactly what I was doing — but — I was not attributing it to Inferno’s post.

Like I start my post agreeing with Inferno but saying that I also feel that we in general react to much to the score. Inferno made a comment that you cannot call out a player, I thought that was fair.

This is the direct quote of how I started the post:
“Yeah, but I at the same time feel that so much criticism...”

Please everyone: have realistic expectations tonight. As long as Kakko plays well don't be too hard on him if he doesn't put up 4G,5A and have a Jagr possession game.

Also, go easy on Huska. This is his first game after spending the end of last year on an awful Pack team with awful D/coaching.

Enjoy the game and look at the positives.
He could play like absolute ass and I wouldn't care. He's been sick, he has very little small ice experience, and this tournament does. not. matter.

shinchanuuhh- Maybe I’ve been unclear.

This is my point. After a game like this — when we lose — at this place the general reaction is often something on the scale from “god everyone sucked, but I recon it’s still early” to X, Y, Z and a handful of others were horrible.

I agree with Inferno, we can become a bit defensive at this place if someone calls out a player. I’ve been there myself with guys like Grachev and co.

But — there is just zero reason to on an individual level state that a big number of players played awful last night. Heck, I think it was the opposite. I think many guys played fairly well; Henriksson shouldn’t be overrated but I wonder if he failed to deliver a single pass last night, he was tremendously effective keeping the puck within the team; Reunanen looked great, maybe he had a giveaway, who cares? I don’t; Fox was heads and shoulders above everyone on the ice in terms of poise and what not, loved what he showed, one awful give away, I don’t care; Robertson — who is the one of our kids I’ve seen the least of; showed a great mix of size and speed, he takes the body, moves really well, great skill package. I also think Jones played well.

The play wasn’t really coming to Rykov, but it’s not easy to take away a side on the ice and be a dominating D when you aren’t on familiar territory. Rykov should have the capability to do that at this level, but I don’t think it’s a big deal that he didn’t.

Keane was the one who struggles the most of the skaters. He lost his composure. Of course that is negative, but still, it’s just not a big deal. It’s G1 of the season. Let him rest one night and he should be good to go.

Shesty? Of course he wasn’t good. But the jury is still out on how long he will need to adjust to the AHL game. Like I’ve said for a long time, he has the ability to be a very good AHL goalie as of today, but of course might need a little time to adjust to NA. But he is not ready to be a very good NHL goalie — today. He is still young and developing. Need to play a lot more hockey, and preferably 60+ games a year on a non-dominating team. Like the last two years he has played 28 games per year for SKA. 28 games. It’s not a ton.

Anything stand out about Skinner? I wonder if this tournament could raise his stock a bit.

Why is out out in the morning skating if he is still sick? Just let him rest of he wasn't playing tonight.

Nah, he played the off side and didn’t have an easy job.

Let’s see how the team looks with Kakko back. A fundamental problem we had yesterday was that we had a potentially great 1st and a strong blueline, but a weak 2-4 line. We tried to play to our strengths — but early in the year it’s of course risky to be too fancy on the blueline and the first tried to do too much. Was like minus 3.

I think our coaches made a bit of a blunder with Newell on the 1st. I think they should play Henriksson and Kakko with a bum on the 1st, two bums and Kravy on the 2nd and Newel-Jones-Elmer on the 3rd — to get some depth. Maybe that could help the Ds a bit.
