Jones and Hajek at the spot are the right move. Robertson needs a bit more time as the top guy in Hartford. Tinordi is a good #8 and a guy like Ty Emberson could surprise people.

People keep trying to trash the team, yet time and again they are clearly letting these young players try and take it and are not burying them behind resigning the likes of Vatrano, Copp, Braun, etc.. I like it. I think Drury knows that the solutions need to come from what we have, not what someone else can sell us.
The Coyotes were not happy with Ty Emberson last year and apparently he wasn’t very happy with them. Could be an interesting under the radar pickup.

I know the Friday game is not being aired, but if anyone has a way to watch the Saturday game I would be very interested.

Jones had more points in the AHL in one season than Hajek has had at any level since he was 16

I know that's not everything but it's just really amusing how inept Hajek has been at offense at literally every level
Hajek had 39 points in 58 games his final season in the WHL, which is slightly more than Jones had (35) in his 52 AHL games last year. Hajek also had 8 points in 7 WJC games that season.

No problemo.

Hajek never posted offensive numbers that were indicative of a guy that would score as a pro, but it was when he turned pro (in North America) that things really bottomed out for him. I remember him in the WHL, and I wouldn't have predicted he'd become the offensive black hole that he is currently.

I still think he has a chance to settle in somewhere as a reasonably dependable #6, which I've said before, but I don't know if it can be here. I think he needs a move and a fresh start.

If Jones makes the team and actually gets used, he will be our 3rd best defender by Jan 2023.

Really interested to see if the added strength has aided his first few steps. If it has, he's going to be an excellent NHL defenseman instead of just a pretty good-good one.
Which one of Lindgren, Miller and Trouba will he be better than?

Wow, quite a statement.

Lemieux said in a text message to Newsday on Thursday that Lundkvist remains in Sweden, waiting for the Rangers to trade him. Lemieux said Lundkvist requested the trade in January after the team sent him down to AHL Hartford.

Lindgren and Trouba. I expect that a ton of people are going to get heartburn during contract negotiations with K'Andre next summer (and I hope they lock him in before it even has a chance to become an issue.)

Anyway on Jones, people slept on him at camp last year (he should have made it over Nils) and its happening a bit this year. He can move the f*** out of a puck and in particular has been a very effective puck carrier, albeit at lower levels. If the added strength adds a burst to his wheels, he will be able to do it at the NHL level as well. His multi directional mobility is already pretty great. He’s got a bit of a risk factor to his game which we’re going to have to live with, but as long as he isn’t situationally stupid, this will result in way more good than bad.

In his own end he’s going to need a bit of work but he’s pretty adept at using his feet to stop rushes before they have a chance to turn into OZ possession for the other team. This is probably the most important aspect of defending in todays NHL and the added strength will 100% help him do that at this level.

He'll get his lunch fed to him occasionally (as is the case with all young D) but I'm confident that he'll learn and adapt with regular reps (even if they're just 3rd pair/PP2 reps.) He gets categorized as an undersized PMD (which okay, he is) but theres a lot to like about his game at both ends of the rink. Plus we'd (hopefully) have the added benefit of getting Trouba the f*** off of PP2 and replacing him with someone who can legitimately QB a PP. On that note, I'd like to see Schenider get into the PK rotation and eventually take most of Fox's minutes there, but thats another conversation entirely.

I doubt that, i love Jones as a prospect but he isn't beating out our top 4 and maybe not even Schneider.

For me he needs to play and be given proper opportunity to gain confidence. I feel that's his big issue is that he's afraid to make mistakes and it's rattling him. I agree that that may not happen here, he's got the tools imo but just needs the confidence.

I was all in on Jones last camp. I thought he was stellar. I agree about his mobility and heady passing ability. He definitely has some special tools.

If you want to say hell be a better puck moving, quicker outlet passer, creative in all zones defender than those two than yeah (i think Lindgren is a little underrated in this regard but Jones def has him and most guys not named Fox) I agree his ceiling is above those two.

But as a strict "defender" which contains all of those aspects and much more, I think we will need to see a lot more from him in the D zone and around the net as you alluded to. That counts for a lot. And I wouldnt count out Schneider either. The kid is very young. This team has an embarrassment of riches on the back end.

But overall regarding your response - I agree there is a lot to be excited about with Jones and I also think there are a lot of people who slept and are still sleeping on him. The kid has a serious skillset that is pretty unique. Last camp I equated him to a Don Mattingly on ice. Hard to explain, but I just see a lot of similarities with the head always up, the focus and the stocky athletic lefty frame - and it goes further than just body similarities.

If he were in any other system he would probably would have a lot more NHL games under his belt by now, maybe even be a regular. But its good in his case that hasnt been thrusted into the lineup out of necessity and has gotten a real good dose of AHL hockey, unlike some of our forwards who you can debate about being "rushed" to the NHL level.

He admitted and was happy hes spent so much time with the Pack. Thats a player who has a really good self awareness (and also dispels some of the rumors about Hartford being a place where a player doesnt want to be, re: Nils)

He had a fantastic camp last year and if he comes close to repeating that it will be his spot to lose imo. I am not some Hajek destroyer (hes not a great player by any means but the hate for guys like him are always overblown) but there is no way he is penciled into the 6th spot right now. Jones has the inside track. Hes paid his dues and is a far superior player. He just has to clean up a couple things and when he gets his chance he needs to be consistent and allowed the minutes and games to reach the level you speak of.

Also agree on your final points regarding the PP units and Schneider & Fox.

Players can learn to be better in their own end. Defense is arguably the toughest position to learn in the sport. If he can be sound positionally, he will be more than adequate enough defensively. He doesn't ever need to be a stalwart.

The natural skills he has, his vision, the way he can anticipate the game offensively, that stuff can't really be taught.

And the work he did this summer to get stronger, bigger, and better. And how one of his competitors has turned into a brat that might not even show up to camp. I think we might witness another really good player develop in front of us this season.

What an entitled loser. I'd keep his rights until they expire.
