I don't like careers ending because of a meaningless collision in a pointless game.

Pointless? You've obviously never had half a million dollars on the line. You do realize that the AHL/Junior guys get a huge bump in pay if they land a spot in the Show even if only for 5 games, right? If I had the chance and the skill, you'd better believe I wouldn't give a thought about lining someone up fair and square or landing the best upper cut of my life. I don't know about you, but it takes me years to earn what these kids have a shot at in a single season if they go all out. Crosby, Semin, Tlusty, .... doesn't matter imho. If someone said they'd give you half a million to cold **** someone, you honestly wouldn't even try it?

The red/white scrimmage is definitely more intense and physical than in recent memory. Gleason has already gotten into it with both Boychuk and Jared Staal over hard hits on the forecheck, and we're only 1 period in.

Gleason is pretty much the only guy on the team that has shown some spunk and gets his dander up (sometimes). if they can all somehow play with a bit of a nasty edge, Westgarth should be offered a pr/community job within the organization if they are afraid to part ways with him. he got in what, four fights last season? did they even win those games or was the tide turned? i don't think so. that Ottawa game to avenge Skinner was a joke but Westgarth was so dang proud.

even if he were to be more active, his services are passe. they could trim a few dollars here and there. however, being that this is an entertainment business, he may be worth his salary to some. that shouldn't be confused with his effectiveness though.

Is the D still as sieve-like as this tweet implies?

Yeah, red has Faulk, Hainsey and Sekera. You can imagine what it looks like on the other side.

Re: players who get their dander up, I'm hoping Komisarek will give us a little more of that. He isn't an enforcer or anything, but he might give us something along the lines of Bryan Allen meanness.

So you're saying Komisarek's jimmys were rustled at various points?

MN fan here, wanting to maybe see the Canes game in MN come regular season time. Whats the possibility that Lindholm and Murphy make the squad this year? Idk if Lindholm is returning to Sweden or not.

Murphy: With Pitkanen done, very high.

Lindholm: Maybe. He's fighting with 10 other people for 3 spots (the "cream" of that particular crop: Zac Dalpe, Dvorak, Gerbe and Viktor Rask). But he is undoubtedly one of the most talented, so we'll see.

I didn't see a lot of Lindholm today. Not that he was bad, just sort of invisible. Played conservatively, didn't find the puck much.

Boychuk was legitimately on his game. Still goes down too easily on ordinary hits, but he was visibly fighting for a spot and got under Gleason's skin in the process. And his offense wasn't just cherry picking, he actually looked pretty solid. The usual Boychuk disclaimer about consistency applies, but IF he were to maintain that level of game he would have no problem finding an NHL job.

sorry to invade your boards good sirs, fantasy question.

is murhpy looking like he will get solid minutes this year, or is he a 7th dman at this point.
how has his development been going, for the next year? (keeper league)

thanks for your time and answers =)

Play him. He'll be solely relied on for our first powerplay unit and rack up points.

As far as even strength minutes go, he'll play 6th or 7th defenseman next to Harrison most likely.

Saw the 1st and 2nd period of the scrimmage today. Here were my impressions:

Boychuck continues to annoy his teammates, and is humbled by Gleason, having to sit there and take cross checks and refuse to fight him.

Semin looks great- maybe a little too comfortable with all of his spin moves and behind the back passes. But I guess now is the time to experiment with all that stuff.

Eric: Good.

Skinner, Lindholm, J. Staal,: all but invisible. Especially Lindholm.

Sekera: Alright. Pretty good shot.

Komiserek: I hate to say it, because I love big, thuggish Defensive D men, but he was a pylon. Got undressed between the blue lines on the way to a Red Team goal.

Murphy: Eh.

Woods: I noticed him a lot. Pretty quick.
