Anyone know if Dannis has to go back on waivers to go to OKC? Just wondering why it wasn't an emergency recall with Bulin hurt.

Anything less than a 22nd overall finish in the NHL by the Oilers this year is an epic fail.

We can not afford, in terms of salary cap, any more talent that what we already have. High picks are useless except as trade bait. As it is I wonder how the hell we are going to sign Nuge, Yak, Smid, and Shultz.

only flames fans are worried about how we sign our players, we will be fine cap wise, hall and eberle taking 6 mil long term was perfect for us

Yes, we can probably make it work cap wise with the players we have. But if we keep adding top picks in the draft, at some point we won't be able to retain them anymore. Any clown can draft top picks, the harder part is acquiring the necessary role players to help a team become successful.

yeah i get what you are saying, i was just at a hockey pool last night (i live in calgary) and some old dude was talking about how the oilers will never be able to sign hall/eberle/rnh and yakupov, i asked him is he was aware that both hall and eberle are signed long term already? then i let him know that they were both signed at 6/per so rnh and yak will presumably get the sme, so 24mil for your top 4. then i let him know the flames spend more than 24 on wideman, boumeester, iginla and camalerri. then said that sucks bro

1) Multiple cups is way harder now than it has ever been before.

2) You won't be able to afford that group for enough years to win multiple division titles, let alone cups.

If you get them all on board with winning and being a tight knit group and they all sign for the same deals you would have $36 million tied up in 6 players. As it stands we have Hemsky ($5 million) and Horcoff ($5.5 million) taking up the majority 2 of those allocated contracts. The key would be to have budget role players and a few key secondary guys that aren't grossly overpaid.

A top 5 pick would be a MAJOR fail for this season. I'm sick of hearing about next season and acceptance of being in the lottery, it's such a losers mentality.
The goal should be playing meaningful games in April, anything else is a fail and would lead to major questioning of this rebuild process and where exactly it's going.

the only way i will accept a first overall pick this year is if we miss the playoffs by 1 pt finish 9th in the conference and win the lottery (again). I honestly dont think this will be an issue, i see us slotting in right around the 7th-8th mark and creating a winning culture.

yeah it is possible, hall and eberle have set the stage for acceptable deals. i will give tambo/oiler staff credit for those deals because having them both sign for 6 makes it a pressure situation for yak and nuge to take the same. it will come down to sign for 6 or leave, and if you are leaving we will get something of major value back.

its like the oilers are playing at the big boys poker table now, and they have a chance to come out ahead because they actually have chips now, before they were playing with next to nothing

Has the final roster info been released yet?

We have to be close, right?

I wouldn't be overly disappointed in missing the playoffs this year even though I think that it's a somewhat realistic goal, but our days of finishing 30th and 29th should be over. We should be drafting at least outside of the top 5 IMO.

We had nothing to trade, no core players to attract other core players, it was a complete mess. At least now we have a group of very valuable assets, now instead of needing 2-3 1st liners we are set.

IIRC Krueger said that the cuts would be made yesterday so that the cut players could play for OKC today so that should mean that the roster is set for now unless Peckham or Potter gets waived/Paajarvi gets sent down eventually.

Tweet from Jason Gregor this morning.. don't know if it has been mentioned on here anywhere, but it pertains to the home opener.

Jason Gregor‏@JasonGregor

Oilers will give away 99 jerseys at home opener. You pick player, former or current, and he will sign it. If current they deliver it to you.

Wonder what they do if someone picks a dead guy.

In all seriousness this is quite cool, unless your a player who has to deliver 99 jerseys;)

Sutton, Jones, Bulin, Theo on IR is my guess. Or Bulin in, Dannis back to OKC.

So teddy and potter have 2 weeks before one has to go? (jones coming back)

Honestly I don't know. They could end up sending PRV down or Petrell when Jones gets back. Two weeks equals is 7 or 8 games, a lot can happen by then even other injuries.
