I don't know if its just because i haven't seen him in forever, but watching dubnyks interview today, he looks a lot bigger. You can only see his chest and up, but he just looks a lot more lean than i remember.

I guess thats not that important for a goalie, but clearly he's been working hard.

After years and years of losing and failure I should be "If they do good, they do good. If not... whatever" but I don't think that I've ever been so nervous for a season. The team has to take a step this year. If it doesn't happen then we've got some serious problems moving forward.

Not really.

The key is next season. It always has been.

Add in the fact that this is a shortened season, and another top 5 pick wouldn't be nearly as bad. It'd actually be quite good...

I disagree. Considering that all six of the players on our top two lines have been playing competitive hockey since September I'll find it quite troubling if they can't find a way to start strong and stay competitive through April. I'm not asking for playoffs, but I feel that they have to be within striking distance this year. Enough is enough.

Have to disagree.

The sky won't fall if the Oilers get another top pick this year. Quite the opposite, imo. I believe management believes the same, and will go all-in next summer (big fish hunting) to acquire a #1 vet defenseman, and possibly a goaltender, depending on how Dubnyk performs this year.

I would be very upset if we were in that situation.

Everybody gets fired if they draft in the lottery again or I'm convinced this team will never win.

I think you actually nailed it.

Management will get fired and they'll likely go with someone experienced like Burke. And we'll go all-in next summer.

That's my prediction. No shiny nickel, though.

Brian Burke GM of the Edmonton Oilers. Give me a bottle of whiskey and a pistol why don't you.

Chronicles of riddic. No. Just no. Stop it.

Aside from giving the Leafs depth, he crippled that franchise.

I want a second shiny nickel, dammit.

As for why I think you're wrong... ignoring the seemingly endless advantages the Oilers have right now going into this sprint (and that I think it will come to down a winning or losing streak either way for every single team), I'm not afraid of any team in our division or really, our conference. I don't think there's a single elite team in the bunch.

The East has 2, IMO.

For our sake, I hope you are. ;)

I would probably have to disown this team if it were GM'd by Burke.

Someone like Burke, though.

Not the man himself.

Dear god, please.

Tell you what: if I'm wrong, you guys can buy me a beer to celebrate. ;)

Would Daryl Katz, Kevin Lowe's buddy, fire him and hire the guy who once challenged him to fight in a barn?

Yeah, you have to be wrong.... yeah, that's it...

I disagree, losing will only create a losing culture. We need to start winning now, if we finish at the Bottom it could be that much harder to sign free agents and we will become the joke of the league. We don't need anymore skilled young
players, what we need now is guys to augment them and play certain roles. These players can be found in free agency and winning will allow that to happen. Either way I'm done hoping for us to lose and I don't think there is anything good about it at this point.

Draft spot... 5, 1, 2, 1, 2... name the team...

3, 7, 3, 1... name the team again...

Pitts and Chi I believe, both have won the cup once. Pitt's has the two best players in the world and Chicago is questionable for the playoffs. If we don't win the cup the rebuild has to be considered a failure.

A top 5 pick wouldn't be the end of the world for us IMO. That said it would have to be because of injuries or else it could get pretty ugly. That said if the club stays healthy I fully expect us to challenge for a playoff spot for more than 1/2 the season. Adding guys like MacKinnon, Jones, etc. to this team would mean that unless our management is the dumbest in the history of sports that we should win multiple cups.

1) Multiple cups is way harder now than it has ever been before.

2) You won't be able to afford that group for enough years to win multiple division titles, let alone cups.

In a 48 game season with only conference games this club could both challenge for a playoff spot and finish bottom five or at least bottom 8.

A top 5 pick would be a MAJOR fail for this season. I'm sick of hearing about next season and acceptance of being in the lottery, it's such a losers mentality.
The goal should be playing meaningful games in April, anything else is a fail and would lead to major questioning of this rebuild process and where exactly it's going.
