Honestly, I thought the offense looked fine. Tkachev, Byfield, Brown, Moore, Arvidsson, etc. all had grade A opportunities to score but whiffed or, giving credit where credit due, were stoned by Brossoit. It happens.

That being said, the defense looked atrocious. Doughty's gaps were awful, Strand and Maata were outclassed, Clague was a turnstile all game, and though Bjornfot made some plays up ice, he was still out of sync in his own zone a lot.

I agree about the defense last night. It was shaky especially compared to the night before.
The thing with Brown isnt the scoring and opportunities. He will get himself into scoring position and he has good hands to score.
Its his play away from the puck everywhere else especially in his own zone. Last night was preseason but it was the same as its been for a couple years now. Really lazy and no one else would get away with playing like that on the team.

Yeah, I'll say I'm closer to the Brown apologist side than not, but he wasn't great with or around the puck last night.

That being said, I still like the idea of Brown on the 3rd of 4th line playing with our young guys. It'll be interesting to see if TMac tries Fagemo with Kopitar and Arvidsson again, then Brown can play with Moore or JAD.

I went into last night expecting to see the old vets show up and put on a great performance. Luckily I was at the Hall & Oates show at the Bowl, and they were awesome. Looks like the Kings weren’t.

Brown needs to be on the 4th line and now. Won't happen. But i do think by the mid/end of the season, Brown will finally be moved down to the bottom 6 (if he's even playing here at all).

I was at the game, maybe I just had too many beers in me, but I thought the Kings were fine and that game could have easily went either way. VGK goalie was #1 star from my viewpoint.

Our offense showed up and was fine, just ran into a hot goalie for sure. The defense on the other hand...

I hope Dusty(coattails)Bottoms has a great season and scores 25 goals that way some team will want to ante up a 1st rounder or a couple of 2nd rounders at the Trade Deadline

So far I'm happy with what I'm seeing. At least the team is not boring. There is plenty of chance generation and the team is noticeably faster. Breakouts are a little better but nowhere near the glory years when the Kings were basically the best breakout team in the league.

I'm wondering how long it will take before TMc reunites IA with Kopi and Brown. I really hope that at least Kopi develops chemistry with Arvidsson before this preseason is over. That first line was easily the worst line last night especially in their own zone and I'm sure in part because of rust and lack of chemistry.

13-17-21 needs to stay together. Byfield is becoming a problem in a hurry. He's looking real comfortable out there. The size, quickness and skill is just too much to ignore. Just shoot the puck more, kid.

Tkachev looks great with Vilardi and Lias, but it’s a bit of of a waste to give him 3rd line minutes during the regular season. Putting him with Danault makes the most sense. And slotting Moore next to two guys with a lot of budding chemistry shouldn’t be a step back.

It really looks like Kempe is the odd man out. He doesn’t fit well with any of the centers. On a deep team, he could be an elite 4C. I’d hate to see him go for some middling return and have some tweener scrubs given more ice time.

With AA out for a bit, it looks like Wagner has caught a reprieve. I think with a healthy roster that having both AA and Wagner dressed is an unneeded redundancy. Athanasiou’s a slightly less one dimensional player with a higher upside. Again, a guy who can be an elite 4th liner on a deep team.

Juggling the forwards around, I’d like to see (obviously won’t happen)…

Brown Kopitar Arvidsson
Tkachev Danault Iafallo
Andersson Vilardi Moore
Lizotte Kempe Athanasiou

Extras should be Wagner and Lemieux, just based on contracts.

Folks, The season is long. Even if he's a lobotomized, diaper pooping simpleton, come opening night, Brown is going to be on Kopi's wing. Now is he there 15 games in? Probably not.

What I'm trying to say is, the opening night roster is not how it's all going to play out by season's end.

and most of us understand that.

At this point, I hope Clague gets claimed and gets a chance elsewhere. I don't think he'll ever make it on the Kings and he was brutal yesterday.

I don't think Frk showed a whole lot either.

Fine with all of those cuts.

Clague has been trending towards a nothing at the NHL level for awhile now. His torch was carried here because we had no prospects to speak of but it's just not going to happen here.

Scanning the D waiver names, Clague seems to have the most NHL games, except for maybe Cale Fleury. It’s interesting that the Kings didn’t send some of the bigger name prospects down in this batch. Especially with Reign camp opening tomorrow.

This is just the guys that have to clear waivers, they have to be filed with the league to be sent down tomorrow which is information available to the public. The bigger prospects you mention don't have to clear waivers, so there's no reporting on them yet. For all we know they could be sent down today/tomorrow with this batch. Same with the guys on AHL contracts, they'll certainly be with the Reign camp tomorrow but they don't have to clear waivers.

Until someone can supplant Brown scoring [forget pre-season] he's gonna be there. There is not a single kid who has shown he can put up 40 points yet. Hell, Kempe is in year 5 and can't do it.

Although I do agree with you that no one has supplanted Brown I guess we'll never know since Brown will be there still. I'm willing to try someone new.

Waiving Clague today tells you everything you need to know about where the organization sees him. If they really thought he had a future with the organization, they'd try to sneak him down on the final day of waivers when everyone else is waiving multiple pieces. If anything, this may be a favor to Clague if another team wants to pick him up and give him a chance.

With Maatta potentially out, that means one of Strand or Wolanin is our seventh defender.
