Despite the score there's a lot to be optimistic about. It's going to be up to TM to turn this raw hodge podge into something real.

Baffles me that Blake extended AA with Tkachev sitting & waiting for a roster spot, the Ruskie is money with and without the puck.

I can’t imagine that Andreas is slated for anything more than a trip on the waiver wire & a bus ride to Ontario.

Remember, AA was signed before Tkachev had even stepped on the ice for the Kings. They had no idea how he was going to work out, in hindsight it's easy.

I'm sure they will explore trade options before they go the waiver route with AA or any other player.

Well, to be fair, it's never a guarantee that a guy coming across the pond will actually produce. We've seen guys coming in much higher touted and do nothing. And Tkachev hasn't actually done anything yet either so....

The issue for me is the money. Resign him for insurance sure, but at $2.7 mill a month or so into FA when his numbers are nearly identical (not counting +/-) to the year before and it only took $1 mill to sign him then? What leverage did he have for $1.7 mill raise?

The roster cuts that are bound to happen this weekend are going to be very interesting. It seems obvious which vets need to go. Hopefully Brown's kid tells him he sucks again and that gets him to play at a roster spot deserving level at least. Dude is about to turn 37 in a month. It's time.

The Good: Quinton Byfield, Lias Andersson, Vladimir Tkachev
The *Not Horrible: Strand, Doughty, Anderson, JAD, Vilardi, Fagemo, Kupari
The Meh: Arvidsson, Cal Petersen, Trevor Moore, Grundstrom, Bjornfot
The Bad: Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar
The Ugly: Kale Clague, Maatta
The Most Improved from last night to tonight: Rasmus Kupari. Tobias was better as well.

*Not Horrible = 1 level above MEH.
Fagemo looked good overall. He moves his feet well and has NHL talent. Would have liked to see a bit more, to upgrade him to The Good.
I'm not worried about Moore, Arvidsson, or Kopi. I am worried about Brown.

Kings best off season move looks like he's 14

Love what kopitar brown and doughty have done but i am ready for this to be byfields team by next season

He tried to take the bull by the horn on a few occasions tonight and it was nice to see that night-over-night growth, guy is just picking up the assertiveness piece by piece

...he THOUGHT about cleaning out a guy with a hit on several occasions tonight too and decided against it, hopefully that's up next

If there is one thing the preseason has reinforced, it's that some young assets need to be packaged for a damn good D man. Edler is short term, so there is Doughty, Roy, Walker, Bjornfot, and Anderson. Maata, Clague, and Wolanin are 7th guys. Strand is a bit above that but his ceiling appears to be a 6.

Brossoit stood on his head to keep this game from having the score reversed. Brown with the great pass on the 1st shift that had Arvidson on the breakaway . That pick goes in most nights. He made other saves in the 1st that kept the Kings from being up by a few. The pp looked pretty bad. The glaring need for a guy who can score from the blueline is pretty obvious.

Some of the vets looked a little rusty, not really worried. Kupari still has yet to do anything in these last few games to make me think he has any future with this team. Aside from some slick moves with the puck, not much effort , much like Kempe last night, really didn't notice him at all. Didn't like the low bridge hit karlson did to kopitar. Thats the kind of thing that ends your season. The dude should've been eating fists!

Remember when Amadio kept on getting 2nd unit powerplay time. I blame Todd. This would be to obvious and Todd will keep Brown on the first line.

Until someone can supplant Brown scoring [forget pre-season] he's gonna be there. There is not a single kid who has shown he can put up 40 points yet. Hell, Kempe is in year 5 and can't do it.

I didn’t see the game but it seems that It’s no longer a question as to if Tkachev makes the roster and it’s now going to be how much will his cap hit be in 22/23. I’m too not worried about veteran performance at this point of preseason as it’s usually like this until the last couple of games. I’m sure (hope) they will sharpen up.

My main question is did it look like Byfield is starting to push himself into the conversation for opening night? Is he going to force Blakes hand because it’s reading like he’s getting more comfortable with each game. Did he play through the middle and if so how was he at the dot?

Blake overpaid to get him sign a one year deal. We have enough cap space this year plus you can put him waivers and no one will claim him because of his price tag. We can still retain salary if we want to get rid of him. Really no risk involved and a nice insurance policy

Without a 7th D to protect, Kings can poach one off waivers! Still need to find that long term solution.

Need to find someone with a shot.

If Brown doesn't stick with Kopi do you stick him with Danault, Vilardi? Lizzote?
