It's so weird that the rangers are unable to put a #1 or #2 OA pick on the PP over Ryan Strome. I hope Chytil comes out on fire like he did last season and expedites Strome's trade. Hopefully Strome on the PP is just Gallant going with what the team is comfortable with to start the season but isn't afraid to shake it up.

If it works (the PP), whatever. At least it makes it easier to fit Kakko under the cap if he gets no PP points.

As long as it works

Should be the motto for this year. If the Rangers fail to make the playoffs, then we can start arguing about what should've been done. But if (and when we make it), I don't really care how it goes.

Is this last year or overall?

If its last year, I'd ask how many minutes they played away from one another after Mika got over the remnants of contracting the vid?

They still had an 8.15 GF60 on the PP from start of season to March 16 which was the day before Mika's big breakout game.

To be fair, Ryan Strome is a 5th overall pick with nearly 10 years experience over those two, and a proven track record of PP success.

When Strome has a dry spell one or both of the kids will be given a shot on PP1. They’ll need to show they belong and not force passes that aren’t there. Mika and Panarin aren’t here to develop our top draft picks, they want to score points, and a lot of them.

I have a different opinion on Laf and Kakko not getting PP time this year over last. Perhaps it is simply anti-Quinn bias, I don’t know. But last year was always a development year to me. Winning games felt secondary. I know the coach and FO probably didn’t feel this way.

This team feels like it can contend. I’m ok playing the best players at the expense of development at this point.

If lower cap numbers on second contracts are a consequence, perhaps there is a method to this madness.

Shrewd take, and it’s not out of bounds by any means

Zach Jones Media Availability.

This kid has really shot up on my own personal hype list. He continues to impress me. Might sound dumb, but he's a great interview. Intelligent answers, both humble and confident and he didn't say "umm" once. That's actually really impressive for a kid his age. I really think he has a bright future in this league.

I agree, he will have a career in the NHL.
The only advice I would give him if I could, would be never make it easy for them to send you down. He was saying if I’m sent down… where I believe he should have been saying I’m having a good camp and feel comfortable and confident that I belong here. Then if they do send him down, that’s when he can give the “I’ll be back” speech.

Definitely an anti quinn bias.....its no different either year, they'll get the ice time when they are ready for it. I always wanted Gallant but i never got the hate Quinn got, his teams pretty much achieved what they should have been expected to do given their make up, and Gallant is basically gonna run the same system and same lines out there.

Can only hope continued limited PP time for Lafreniere/Kakko (*if it happens*) ends up being more "3d chess on second contracts" rather than "antsy agents makes trade request".

The fact is they both to date have received less PP time than the vast majority of 1OA/2OA picks usually do. Whether directly or indirectly that is a choice by the NYR org...they get to own the consequences.

I don't think it's been discussed enough just how valuable guys like Goodrow and Nemeth will be in terms of their versatility while this roster is in such flux over the next 2-3 years with young players bouncing up and down as they graduate.

I think it's fair to be a little frustrated that a guy like Strome who likely has no future here gets PP time over our 1st and 2nd overall picks while being the 4th righty on the unit but, like, he's been a great PP player his whole time here and the PP has been great since he's been on the 1st unit. it's a non issue imo
