Hmm, not really. He's had a few bright moments, but has been targeted and abused more often than not.

Not sure where this false legend of him being a good player that coaches mysteriously refuse to play came from.
He had a couple of good/solid games as a rookie. That's gotta be where it comes from.

Last year.....boy howdy was he targeted and abused.

The thing about Elam is, he has played well every time he was in the lineup. Something about him the coaches did not like and would not play him. Perhaps it was his use of hands, maybe it is the reliance on zone scheme which he doesn't excel at, but he is a good CB.
I think the biggest issue was that he has been really handsy so far and he has drawn a fair amount of flags. On top of not being a natural zone CB like Benford has been.

Last season they had 5 boundary CBs with 150+ snaps. Ingram is likely CB4 this year and he played 8 snaps last season. And good luck guessing who might be CB5 this season.
Hopefully White not being part of the equation will reduce some of the snaps/games lost due to injury.

That said, one player that should worry folks more than it does is Douglas. He was outstanding for us, but didn't play at that level in Green Bay. They had moved him to safety at times because they had other guys they wanted on the boundary. He also played a full season just once since 2019. He's older than Tre White. It doesn't surprise me the Bills aren't eager to extend him long term.

On the other than, McDermott has been so good at getting average play out of late round picks and UDFA that out of Ingram, Kyron Brown, Hardy, Lovely, Couch, Delaney, and Williamson could easily be a diamond in the rough

McDermott's history developing DBs is one thing that gives me hope. But, on paper, there are legit questions about the safeties in general and the depth of the CB position.

Eek. I dont want to read anything bad about McGovern. I'm anyway nervous enough about the center position.
Yep. Losing Morse was totally overlooked by most - mainly due to the ridiculous hysteria that always surrounds the WR position.

I think they might have drafted a good one im Grainger though. To anyone who has paid close attention - how's he looked so far in camp?

His rookie season he absolutely deserved more playing time than he got.
The Jacksonville game last year was so bad for Elsm that you have to assume that’s what they were seeing in practice. He was getting burned by Calvin Ridley which most metrics showed that he was a shell of himself last year.

Certainly, one game is not everything though.

-Edwards week to week (hamstring), not good learning the safety position in this D. Does Beane have Hyde on speed dial ?
-Claypool Day to Day, ankle (has Shavers passed him in the depth chart ?)
-Johnson went down today but was see with a leg wrap (no brace)

Salc: Bills put pads on for first time
We will know a lot more after the first game. Sounds like Edwards is/was insurance.

Claypool is on the fringe, the hope is he either has dominant showings or a receiver lower on the chart has a can't cut type pre-season.
