That’s what I typed. Practice group. I’m assuming that Berube will make adjustments.

Patch like Haakinpaa will be lucky to stay off LTIR this season. He’s not healthy and probably never will be again. I think he’s better than the 4 goals he scored last season but asking for more than 20 is a stretch.

What river?

One of my favorite things to say to my wife (don't care if not politically correct) is we'll end up living in a van down by the river.

Although Grebenkin impressed his teammates and coaches, the Leafs clearly believe he still needs some more time to adjust to the North American game and will begin the season with the Toronto Marlies. However, should he continue to impress in the AHL, he very well could be at the top of the list of call-ups when injuries inevitably strike the Leafs.

Nylander on the other hand, has had a very underwhelming camp. The former 8th overall pick in the 2016 entry draft turning down multiple NHL deals to join his brother in Toronto, but their dream of playing in the NHL together will have to wait a little bit longer as Alex will have to prove he deserves a shot with the Marlies.

Joining Nylander, Grebenkin and Steeves on a trip down to the Marlies are goaltender Artur Akhtyamov, defensemen Mikko Kokkonen, Nicholas Mattinen, Topi Niemela, Cade Webber, Matteo Pietroniro and forwards Joseph Blandisi, Roni Hirvonen, Cedric Pare, Jacob Quillan, Logan Shaw and Ryan Tverberg. The cuts come as a bit of a necessity with Leafs' training camp coming to an end and the Toronto Marlies getting set to open theirs this weekend.

Can play LW from the sounds of it, and also fill in at C. Fits the mold.

Pre-season always more interesting when there are a couple roster spots up for grabs, and some new players looking to settle in.
Held two Oilers in a scrum and looked pretty cool doing it. Think you look his name up fight oil leak.

It’s not zero but very close to zero. I don’t think two Canadian teams have met in the final since ‘86. Aside from the Betteman curse the leafs playoff performance in recent years has been underwhelming to say the least and the nucks are cursed by 2011 and the Oilers.
89?

Elliotte Friedman echoed what Mirtle reported the other day on his latest 32 thoughts pod: Dewar and Hakanpaa are starting the season on LTIR.

Which likely means no cap compliance trade is needed before opening night.
Wow, a shocking turn of events! A team is using the methods available to it in order to get around the salary cap so that it doesn't have to lose anyone off its roster. Stunning.

IMO it's really weird how quickly both Hakanpaa and Dewar went from just being "questionable for opening night" to "missing the first 10 games AND 24 days of the season."

It's almost as if teams plan it this way.
This is obviously true in hindsight, but basically what I'm getting at is by not being open about the recovery times for these injuries earlier, the team creates baseless trade speculation in the media involving other players like Liljegren/Jarnkrok/Kampf/Robertson, when they could just be more open about recovery timelines for their players.

The team does not create any of the speculation. That is all fans and media. They don’t have to reveal anything.

And to be honest, the media is just giving the fans (or a good portion of them, anyways) what they want.

If we have to choose between Jarnkrok and Kampf, we are better off keeping Kampf. Always keep the center when talking about bottom six types. We have tons of wingers. Ship CJ off to CBJ, sign Patches and let the young wingers hustle and battle it out for ice time.
100%

Kampf will be what, top 5 in PK minutes out of all the forwards in the league by the end of the season? At least he's "top" in something for whatever he does. Jarnkrok is just here doing what really. Pretending he's even 50% of what Kerfoot was for us.

It seems likely the Leafs will just waive Timmins and then sign up Pacioretty and Lorentz, with Hakanpaa and Jarnkrok or Dewar on LTIR to start. It should fit everything they need. Clearly Treliving needs another 3 months to assess the trade market.

Lineup looks pretty set now with Chief wanting that as the 4th line... Only thing is the 3rd line has too many people right now, We have about 3 forwards and only one roster spot available.. (Patches/Jarnkrok/Dewar (LTIR)

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Domi - JT - Nylander
McMann - Holmberg - Robertson/Patches/Jankork/
Lorentz - Kampf - Reaves

Tanev - Rielly
McCabe - OEL
Beniot - Timmins/Lilly/Raifi/Hakanpaa/Myers (personally, I would put Hakanpaa in the 6th spot when healthy).

It would tiddy work from Treliving to clear 5m in cap space trading Lilly and Jarnkrok away and running Patches/Dewar as the extra forwards and Timmins/Raifi as the 7th d-man.

Yep. I think it has been a good camp and we are seeing Berube's preferences in the line-up configurations and I think I like them. I go back to we can move Liljegren, Jarnkrok and Kampf and not really miss them

Last night's line-up looked pretty good and didn't have Calle or Lilly in. Or McMann. It also didn't have Dewar, Hakanpaa, Rifai, Cowan, Minten or Grebenkin.
m
This s not about dumping those three, but if we can get some draft picks, cap space and ice time for our next wave, then we should be doing that. Do we ever see a top 6 that has both Lilly and Niemela? No? Trade Lilly now then. My line-up below is not what Berube is doing and I do believe he knows more than I do. Here is what I would like to see though.

Knies Matthews Marner
Domi Holmberg Nylander
Pacioretty Tavares Robertson
McMann Lorentz Reaves
Dewar (IR)
Cowan
Minten (IR)
Grebenkin (Marlies)

Reilly Tanev
OEL McCabe
Benoit Timmins
Hakanpaa (IR)
Myers
Rifai

Woll
Stolarz
Murray (Marlies)
Hildeby (Marlies)

This 23 man roster would have over $4.5M in cap space and we could get three or four picks for the guys we move out. It might be a way to keep Cowan up too and I would like that; 30 or 40 games up and down the lineup, released to the world juniors, and practicing with the big club all year.
