Simmonds is a lock for the roster, don’t kid yourself.

Lots of bottom 6 options. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Kerfoot+Engvall gone so we can carry some extra bodies

In no world is Simmonds is a locker over 2 players that can skate and play. kerfoot is a very under appreciated player

Engvall is a good 13th forward who can skate and chip in

Simmonds just trash

He just re-signed for 2 years. He'll be playing in our 13 forwards.

He signed 2 years to be with the Marlies as Cune role is diminishing

If Simmonds is in your end up forget Stanly Cup, you won't even make the playoff

Ho-Sang deserves a contract. If you can't fit him into the team, get him 1st line minutes with Robertson on the Marlies.

Eventually we will have injuries. Ho-Sang is better than Galchenyuk.

There's nothing he has done to prove he's better than Gally.
He looks good but pre season is pre season

But I agree. He should start with the Marlies. I have Joey Anderson ahead of him

Ho Sang has skills but he's not a top 6 player

He is better than Anderson and he does have top 6 skill. The only place in the line-up where he would play would be top 6 unless you run an offensive 3rd line which it doesn't sound like they're going to do.

If you can get some production out of him in the top 6, it makes the rest of the lineup so much deeper.

Why do you think he can though ? I mean Robbie Schremp had skills

Problem with him was always the same he lacks consistency and work ethic

Fine let's say he is committed what makes you think he's any good for 10 games or 20 games

What has he done to lead you to believe that.

Just another shinny toy. I remember saying the same Gally. If he can magically find his old scoring touch. And Gally actually scored 30 goals in this league

Yet you expect some dude who never played a full season all of sudden to be a top 6 player

Ok I guess

There's no chance of that happening. He's a role player. He'll be playing for the Leafs.

I agree he hasn't looked good. He's going to be given a role to play though.

He'll get a generous chance I'm sure but if he continues to show he can't handle the puck anymore and is hesitant to fight with the bum hand you have to cut bait. The contract can get buried with no penalty, we can't make the same mistake we made forcing Komarov into important minutes + PP time when his hands were busted up.

Ritchie Matthews Marner
Bunting Tavares Nylander
________ Kerfoot Spezza
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Gabriel Simmonds

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Dermott Liljegren
Sandin

Campbell
Mrazek

Ho-sang vs. Engvall for that last spot.

I think Kampf has 3C on lock.

Ritchie Matthews Marner
Bunting Tavares Nylander
Kerfoot Kampf Kase
Mikheyev Spezza Simmonds

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Dermott Liljegren
Sandin

No cap room to carry an extra forward.

Lol Engvall sucks, I'll take Simmonds all day over a guy who can skate fast but does absolutely nothing else

Wholeheartedly agree. If you don't think Simmonds should make the team fine but throw out a better name than Pierre "Big For Nothing" Engvall. Robertson, Brooks, hell even Gabriel if only because he's younger I'd accept as making the team before for Simmonds. The Giraffe shouldn't be considered for a roster spot at all, we've already got a better version of him in Mikheyev, and Ilya at least kills penalties.

Well at least Engvall can do one thing at an above average level which you definitely can't say about Simmonds who's nothing but reputation at this point

If Simmonds gets the Thornton treatment heads need to roll because we've tried that ****

Not sure he plays with Robertson specifically, but he should start with the Marlies. I don't think he has stood out enough to warrant getting a full time job right out of the gate, especially since he is more of an offensive oriented forward with little-to-no defensive value.

Secondly, I want to see his commitment over a longer period of time before giving him an NHL shot. Let's see if he can keep up his work rate, consistency, and commitment for a few months in the AHL. He has yet to truly dominate down in the AHL anyways, as he only has a career high of 10 goals in the AHL, which is the only time he reached double digits despite playing 3 50+ game AHL seasons. Improving his defensive game will also help his chances of sticking in an NHL lineup, especially since he may need to play bottom 6 going forward (especially on the Leafs, which already has Marner and Nylander ahead of him).

I think Ho-Sang falls in the same category I would put Anderson, Robertson, and Sandin: Guys who need to start the year in the AHL, but could realistically end the year in the NHL. That would put him behind Engvall (proven track record with upside who has more to offer in a bottom 6 role than Ho-Sang at this point; also the same age with more contractual obligations), Simmonds (will win some kind of job, even if it is 13th forward, based on toughness and prestige despite not performing very well in preseason), Brooks and Semyonov (both have looked better than Ho-Sang overall, and also look capable of playing a versatile bottom 6 role in the NHL right now).
