Malgin hasn't earned a full time role. He's on a tryout still. If he isn't doing much in 5 games, he's done and Robertson comes up. Simple
Okay and what does that have to do with anything? Should teams never give chances to players who will be out of the league soon? I don't think you realize how things work.Malgin will be out of the league by mid season.
Hopefully you will be out of this fourm by game 2Malgin will be out of the league by mid season.
No doubt.
And if we were running anything more than the league minimum 20 man roster both would be on the team now, and Robertson would be in the starting lineup with Malgin in the press box.
As it is, Malgin will have to produce immediately if he wants to stay up ahead of Robertson. If he fizzles he'll be on waivers pronto and probably clear.
Also, Robertson is one injury away from the team and that might come as soon as game 2 of Tavares can't go.
Also, the Leafs absolutely have to trade somebody by the end of the month - Kerfoot, Engvall, or Holl most likely - to get under the cap when Lilly comes back.
No chance I’ll be here all season.Hopefully you will be out of this fourm by game 2
Yup. He's earned his shot for now.Okay and what does that have to do with anything? Should teams never give chances to players who will be out of the league soon? I don't think you realize how things work.
I think it's important to note that a lot of Robertson's production in pre-season came without playing with any top end guys in our line up.
Malgin played almost entirely with Nylander
Salary cap sucks but I would have still chosen Robertson over Malgin at the end of the day, I think his best and upside is more than what Malgin can give us.
Of his 5 games played, he played one game on the third line and one game on the 4th.I think it's important to note that a lot of Robertson's production in pre-season came without playing with any top end guys in our line up.

I don’t think that’s out of the realm of possibility either.I think next to guys like Jarnkrok and Kerfoot on line #3 he could score 20 goals. That's better than another year in the AHL. If he can't get off the 4th line a demotion would make sense.
Kubel has to be the first option to hit the wire from the top-12 meaning for Robertson to get a spot it was Kubel being protected from waivers that prevented it.
I think this is a better team.
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kerfoot - Jarnkrok
ZAR - Kampf - Malgin
than this one.
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Tavares - Malgin
Engvall - Kerfoot - Jarnkrok
ZAR - Kampf - Aube-Kubel
I also think if at worst Aube-Kubel was claimed, Adam Gaudette or Wayne Simmonds are still fine options at forward #13 and they have cleared, so they can be interchanged. I'm usually pro physicality. But, I just think Robertson's being blocked similar to how Sandin/Liljegren were shielded in last years playoffs. Just play the kids, give them a role, they're good enough.
As much as I dislike Justin Bourne he was bang on with Malgin only being on this team because of Dubas Ego due to being called out on Marchment trade.
Seems to suggest the Marchment trade is bad because he had a half-season breakout at age 26.Malgin will be out of the league by mid season.
And JoeyA too maybe, and then 3-4 other guys making a push.I'm happy to see Mete clear. He's depth they'll need at some point in the season. Same thing with Gaudette.
Malgin gonna outscore Marchment this season.Seems to suggest the Marchment trade is bad because he had a half-season breakout at age 26.
Simultaneously writes off 25 year old who looks great.
I hope you recognize the irony in this.
Roberton's interview last year about being in the AHL suggested he wasn't satisfied being there. He came in and did everything to get a spot...I don't think he cares about Malgin and would rather be on the roster.Even when they were playing together, though, they both looked good.
Robby played with Malgin a ton this preseason - i'm sure he understands why they don't want to toss Malgin on waivers quite yet.
I don't think this is true. They both seemed to get around equal time with the bigger names. Robertson's big 3 assist game when everyone declared he made the team was with Nylander and Kerfoot while Malgin was playing lower in the lineup.
I'm sure he understands how the NHL works, and there's a difference between not being good enough to make the team and facing a full year in the AHL, and being good enough to make the team, being first callup, and likely looking at a majority of the year in the NHL. There were 110 games from our forwards beyond the main 12 last year. He'll get his games.Roberton's interview last year about being in the AHL suggested he wasn't satisfied being there. Regardless, team above player.
