We don't necessarily know if the team is going above the player in this case.

Also, when you're at that age, you're thinking of you. The difference between being in the AHL and the NHL is like 700k for him.
We do know that the team is going above the player in this case. Even if you think Robertson is better, it's a marginal difference at present and the difference is not worth the cost of losing Malgin entirely, especially before we even see what he can do in actual games.

I disagree that everybody is only thinking of themselves at that age (that's a pretty pessimistic view), and while I'm sure he's disappointed, I'm sure he understands how the NHL works, that he's likely to still get the majority of the year in the NHL, and that getting caught up in minor salary discrepancies for a couple games isn't productive for a future multi-millionaire.

One thing that is confusing to me is that every single excuse or reasonable justification used for the Robertson argument can be used for Malgin too.

Not sure why one players 'feelings' takes precedence over the other. I'm sure they both know the situation.

Was not interested in having Malgin back, but I was impressed with his preseason, night and day from the last time he was here. Not just his scoring more, but his zone entries, board battles, hits, defensive zone awareness, he just looks like a different player unless you haven’t been watching.

Regular season can be a different story, and if he fails, we can bring up Robertson, but if he continues the way he’s been going, you have 2 players that can play top 9 if there are injuries. (And there will be some)

We had a pretty big sample size of what Malgin is in the NHL. Rather not stomp the high pick we've put years of development into, especially since he likely felt good about his training camp.

Robertson might be extremely mature but at that age, you're wanting to establish yourself as an NHL regular and if you think you did coming out of that camp and you're still not on the roster, 9/10 guys are gonna be pissed off, they're players because they're competitive AF.

Ah well, literally nothing to do now but wait.

A lot of you guys are being hard on Malgin

The guy went away and improved himself and has desered a place on this team with his preseason performance

Simple as that

Robertson will get his chance, he's one hell of a talent but it won't hurt him to light up the AHL while he waits
In fact that may keep his confidence flowing
Pretty much. They know the numbers game its part of the business. I am pretty sure people here are more hurt about Robertson being cut than Robertson very likely. Robertson will be fine and there is high chance something will happen and he'll be with the big team.

Also...OH NO ! HOW WILL ROBERTSON COPE WITH TAKING THAT ONE TTC FROM AIR CANADA CENTRE TO RICOH COLISSEUM? HE'LL NEVER SEE THE NHL TEAM EVER AGAIN! IT'S SO FAR AWAY FROM ONE ANOTHER! THE TRAVESTY!

I think it's important to note that a lot of Robertson's production in pre-season came without playing with any top end guys in our line up.

Malgin played almost entirely with Nylander

Salary cap sucks but I would have still chosen Robertson over Malgin at the end of the day, I think his best and upside is more than what Malgin can give us.
Malgin played on the 4th line in 2 games.

Both played with and without Nylander. All of Robertson's assists were to either Nylander or Kerfoot

5@48mill puts them in this situation.

Malgin and Robertson have 9 games to prove themselves. No need to worry about it until Liljegren comes off LTIR. At that point, something has to give.

Why exactly is anyone upset about Robertson going down?

It's a numbers thing, and I'm sure Nick has been told that. Leafs will run 19 skaters Wednesday, and Robertson will be an emergency recall on Thursday and play against Washington. This is just not a big deal.

Players at age 25 are different than what they were at age 19-22. That fact is the entire reason everybody hates Malgin in the first place and don't want to give him the chance he rightfully earned. We're not "stomping" on Robertson because he plays a few games in the AHL at age 21, and I'd be concerned about Robertson if you actually think that's his attitude. He could be back up in as little as 1 game. Not losing Malgin is more important for the team right now. We're going to need more than 12 forwards this season.

And at which point there may be other injuries......

we are bored and we need something to complain about until wednesday...and then we'll find something to complain about till thursday...and then we'll find something to talk about till playoffs

Expect to see Dahlstrom added to LTIR, considering he's supposed to actually be out the longest

I'm sure they are waiting to time for when they bring another player up, to maximize return

He's on SOIR right now according to Cap Friendly.
