Kerfoot has looked very good in preseason. Like, mid-season optimum Kerfoot. Still, his cap hit doesn’t fit on this team anymore. He’s shown himself to be a valuable pickup for some other team. I don’t think Dubas would have a hard time finding a taker on a good old fashioned “trade” (without a sweetener) player for picks or prospect.

I’d be happy with Jarnkrok as the internal replacement. Would allow both Robertson and Malgin a spot without thinning out our blue line depth.

It's clear we have a logjam with a healthy team. Malgin & Robertson may both play opening night if Tavares remains out...but that's only a temporary solution. Malgin you'll lose on waivers for sure, and Robertson doesn't deserve to be sent to the Marlies due just to his waiver exemption status. Only solution would be if we simply don't sign ZAR? But I see that as a mistake as well ...as I think ZAR-Kampf-NAK provide a great checking line, that is actually our 4th line. Having a 4th line that could play teams top lines and bring energy with physical play is quite rare to have. Interested to see how we maneuver this one

With Malgin good camp, I believe he's going to make the team over Robertson due to the fact he can just go straight to the Marlies and be the first callup when someone is injuried.

Everyday I update my Twitter to see what's going on with Clifford.

I'm sure I'm the minority here but I'm glad to see him still up with the big boys rn.

WHO DO YOU NOT WANT TO LOSE?

You just know it is going to happen, whenever the leafs try to sneak a guy through he gets claimed.
I think both Malgin and Gaudette are more valuable than Brooks who was claimed last year.
Simmonds, Clifford, Anderson, Hollowell.

Mete for me is a guy that I don't want to lose.
You can throw him out there on the 3rd pair. Left or right side.

Perfect guy to have with the Marlies just in case.
My #1 choice for hoping he stays is Mete.

Brian Burke said a lot of things, but one thing he said stood out to me.
Some media guy asked if it’s hard to make a trade. And he replied he could trade anyone off his roster today if he made a few calls. Anyone.
Whether it’s a good trade or not is a different thing.

He doesn't play a sexy game but he's a pro already imo, Holmberg.

Sturdy player, makes the right smaller plays and even in the offensive zone, he goes to the net. He screened Ned the other night against Detroit and has found himself trying to take the goalies eyes away quite often.

I think they have to find a way to keep Malgin. I don't know if he can produce at an NHL level but the talent is there. I would be pretty gutted when he gets claimed if he puts up 50-60 points for another team.

I honestly cannot remember a more compelling and competitive training camp than this one.

So many players have come in and shown themselves to be legitimate options, not just quantity at the expense of quality.

Kudos to Malgin, Robertson, Mete, ZAR, Holmberg for showing up and competing their brains out.

Same for Simmonds and Clifford, who are in a tough situation for the first time in their careers. They definitely came with the right attitude.

Kudos to both Samsonov and Murray as well. Still a lot of questions on our goaltending but they didn’t do anything to that led to more questions in net. Hopefully they both stay healthy.

Tough decisions coming and very curious to see what our opening night roster is and personnel moves are between now and then.

Hopefully we don’t have significant waiver losses and really hoping to see ZAR on opening night.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Interesting the insider articles had the Leafs very reluctant to part with Simmonds earlier because of his locker room presence and such. I guess the bubble guys were just too good and they don't want to lose a Malgin to keep Wayne. Good call I'd say.

Last year he looked pretty cooked, you gotta let him come back in and give him the chance to show he can still be an NHLer but we clearly have better options. I don't think we have the luxury of not icing our absolute best team. Too many guys just add so much more and our cap situation isn't as such that we can just keep him in the press box either.
