I think that Alexandrov has a good shot at being the 4C, because Sunny hasn't looked hapable of playing center since he returned from his double surgeries in 2021. I don't think he has the skating ability to play center on a high tempo line and the combo of potential 4th line wingers we have screams high tempo 4th line.

Alexandrov also requires waivers to go to the AHL and I don't think we will risk him. He had 19 goals and 38 points in 41 AHL games and showed flashes of being an NHL player in his age 22 season last year. He just turned 23, is a former #62 overall pick, is still on his ELC, and won't have arbitration rights next summer when he's an RFA. He is exactly the kind of guy that gets claimed on waivers and organizationally we have much more wings than centers vying for the 9th-14th forward spots (Blais, Neighbours, Sunny, Torpo, Mac, Bolduc, and Walker fighting for 3-4 wing spots vs Sunny, Alexandrov, and Dean fighting for 1-2 center spots).

Losing Alexandrov to waivers and then seeing a center get injured creates a genuine problem. Losing Mac and/or Walker to waivers and then seeing a wing injury isn't a huge problem. I will be very surprised if Alexndrov is put on waivers and I think he is a better candidate for 4C than Sunny.

I agree with you about Bolduc and Dean. Their only path to making the team is looking like absolute studs at camp and even then they very well might simply earn '1st call up' status in order to preserve depth. Sunny and Blais both have a lengthy injury history in the last couple years and Vrana has had issues staying in the lineup. Neighbours, Alexandrov, and Torpo all need to take another step and it won't surprise if they should be healthy scratched some nights. Preserving depth is a necessity given the guys we brought onto our island of misfit wings.

Yea, I didn't check about Alexandrov's waiver status. You might be right about their usage of Sundqvist, but I'll have to see it. My original post had him outside of "lock" status. So maybe they really will treat him like any other player, but his history with the team might change things. They're also obviously built with speed on the wings, which, if they intend to take advantage of systemically, could make Sundqvist an awkward fit at wing.

I'm not against the Sundqvist signing - depth, experience, and versatility is nice to have. Plus, I've always been in favor of competition for those bottom spots. I feel like those guys play with a bit more electricity when it's not clear who's starting.

if we go 14-7 we have Blais, Neighbours, Toropchenko, Sunny, Alexandrov, Ritchie (if he shows anything in camp)
it looks like 6 guys rotating in and out of the last 4 forward spots

I'll be very surprised if Sunny isn't in the lineup opening night, but after that I think the warm feelings about him coming home no longer guarantee him a spot in the lineup. I do think he is good enough defensively to play 50+ games even though he isn't as speedy as other guys. The D responsibility of a winger makes it easier for a slower guy to still get in on the forecheck effectively (and get back in time defensively).

I think Blais and Torpo will be expected to play like absolute wrecking balls out there and injuries usually result from doing that. I fully expect a lot of rotation in and out of the lineup from those last few roster spots.

Yeah no reason for Alexandrov to get passed trough waiver unless he looks bad.

He's probably angry because the PA announcer called him Sam Bitten after his tussle in Saturday's game. What's a guy gotta do to make a name for himself?
You guys realize that we have two Bitten’s in camp, right?
Sam is Will’s younger brother. And Sam is a lot bigger(6’2” 220).

Defender blasted Saad making Saad go a full different direction he was going straight into the goaltender.

Well. That was a quick 2 goals

Didn't catch the interview with Armstrong...if anyone has a transcript/recording please link!

Good shift in the offensive zone. Perunovich made a nice play on the re-entry too with the fake dump and find the late guy hopping on. Really like how he moves the puck.

That was a tremendous pass. Hayes looked good on that shift. We need him to be a possession monster in the O-zone this season.
