None yet. But my mother-in-law is staying with us at the moment, so I should probably be on my third bottle by dinner time.

But I agree, this is perhaps THE most unique time in modern history for this team.

There's arguably more prospect potential on the board than at any point in franchise history (the only real challenger would be the early 90s).

On top of that, there's legit high-end NHL talent on the board.

They can arguably make a competitive offer for most players they could want or need.

You've got legit, franchise-level potential on this roster. I mean honestly, prior to this fall, Kakko was in rare company in franchise history for how he was viewed. Lafreniere is beyond even that. There is literally no point of reference for this as a franchise.

Consider that we have a group of defenseman, age 26 and younger, that includes Trouba, DeAnglo, Lundkvist, Schneider, Fox,Robertson, Lindgren, Miller, and Jones and that it is not possible to have all of them on the roster at the same time. I mean just reflect on that for a second. It's absolutely insane.

Now would be a real convenient time for this league to switch to an NBA style soft cap.

That group had nowhere near the high end talent and deep prospect pool that this team possesses.
But that group had the bottom 6 and defense along with chemistry and good leadership. Thankfully finding good bottom 6 talent is far easier than finding good top 6 talent, but this group still has a long way to go. Our defense is a mess, we don’t have a true #2 centerman, and we don’t have the team chemistry and comraderie that team had. I am very hopeful though. I honestly do think this team can make some serious noise in a couple of years.

really love seeing this chart. Shows just how far our roster has to go. Big seasons by Buch, Kakko, and Laf can really propel us up these rankings.

But other than the fourth line the pieces are largely in place, they just have to develop. Kakko developing into a legit 2RW probably skyrockets that second line into the top 10, Chytil and Lafreniere developing probably do the same for the third line. Kravtsov arriving and making an impact probably gives a huge boost somewhere too.

I love how our beat writers are saying things like "Kakko needs to step up and replace Fast". Really? Playing with those 2 all season he will probably double Fast's production with his eyes closed. The big drinking game last season was having a drink everytime Fast messed up a glorious chance from Panarin/Strome. You'd be hammered by the first intermission.

Miller’s making the team outright is a bit of a surprise. Otherwise nothing else super unexpected.

Yeah I was expecting he would make the team, I also thought Barron would make the team, but they had to bring back the lackluster DiGiuseppe for some reason.

We really need to start trading away Dmen or end up wasting away assets.

Fox was 3 years younger but had only 11 fewer points overall and 6 fewer PP points. And Fox averaged slightly less time on Ice per game.

There's a very decent chance that Fox could match him if he got the PP time.

But DeAngelo had to carry around Staal who is death to all things offense.... and defense...

Okay hes death to all things hockey. Point being, DeAngelo would have probably been even more productive last year if he had a competent partner.

DeAngelo scored 2.27 5v5 P/60 away from Staal in 528 minutes last year (and 1.19 in 505 minutes with Staal). 2.27 was good for ~50th in the league among players with 500+ minutes and the same rate as Kreider and Ovechkin, significantly better than players like Barzal and Rantanen.

Fox scored 1.19 P/60 last year (barely played with Staal).

Now 1+ 5v5 P/60 is very good for a defenceman, but DeAngelo was on a whole different level.

Hey guys with training camp tease ending and the season starting - if someone wants more hockey content in form of a 30 day athletic guest pass i have like 5 coupon codes for friends. As i don't know anyone following (foreign) sports i don't need them and maybe someone can use them. Also there is great training camp an prospect coverage

Maybe some other athletic subscribers have also some spare ones to give to the rangers community.

Dear Mods: Can I just paste/share the 5 links here? (The Athletic) Or should i open a topic/DM

LGR!

when people say that they are NOT talking about points...we shouldn't be expecting kakko to replace the other things fast brings so the statement is still dumb but offense isn't what fast brought to that line.

I think it will be interesting to see just how Gauthier reacts when somebody is unhappy after being plastered by a rookie....it will get interesting very quick. These games are going to get intense really fast in a divisional based schedule...basically all 4 point games now . Gauthier is big enough and strong enough to handle this peacemaker role....the question is does he have that in him ? If he does...he can expect to be protected by the Rangers at the draft...or else he will have a new mailing address on the Pacific coast of the US . I would not be overly shocked to see Lemieux on the Laf line at some point that first game . Laf will be a target of the Isles....they know Rangers will retaliate and they might pull a couple of PP's out of it and they have the yellow rats like Komorov-Cluttersuck and such that won't think twice about it . It should be fun !

I just looked up his only 2 career fights and boy they weren’t good. I mean, he’s got the size, strength, and background to really be a heavyweight if he ever learns. Maybe Fotiu can give him lessons.

I'm not delusional about this team this year. This team is very young and still has a ways to go. JD/JG will continue to add pieces and build the depth. There is no doubt in my mind that in as little as 2 years they will be a serious contender. Young, elite talent, depth. The previous core was very good and did well but just didn't have the talent to win it all. It wasn't that they choked, they just weren't good enough.

Mike Rupp said that he sees the Rangers hoisting a cup in the next 3 or 4 years.

A lot of pieces have to come together. It does start with having the talent and the Rangers, through luck, good trades and good drafting seem to have put together a lot of high end talent. This could turn out in a season or so to be as well rounded and solid as any team we've have since 1994.

The NHL’s top 10 regression candidates for 2020-21

Athletic write up has two Rangers in the top 10 regressions for this season

Mika & ADA.

Hasn't been the first time I've seen their names on this list.
Both had career seasons that crushed their previous performances. They were easy targets for this article. It's honestly a good question. Can they replicate what they just did for a 2nd season in a row?

Even if he can learn some grappling skills like Kreider and Barry Beck before them...it helps .

Throwing Mika in there seems kind of disingenuous.

Its like "Hey! Instead of pacing at the rate of a Richard winner, if he regresses to his career averages he'd still be a 40 goal scorer over 82 games!"

Like no shit, he isn't going to shoot 20% again.
Well....he does have a few extra games against the Fishsticks ....although he might miss the first two ?
