I still can't get over the awful trade of dumping Mats "Zuuuuuke" Zuccarello for a measly 2nd round pick in 2019 and a 3rd round pick in 2020. I know, it was a rebuild and the organization needed options, but where went the whole "if you as a player want to leave now, we will help you out" deal? Where went that gentle touch to the roster? Trading Zuccarello left Lundqvist in tears. What state do you think the rest of the room was at? He was loved and a staple in the NYR roster. For what? What did we get for those picks? Garbage.

Zuccarello was a good friend of Lundqvist and Hank's mental strength to win was rubbed off on Zuke. It's clear to show in the interviews. Zuke could've carried that hard work mentality from Hank to the rest of the team. A continuing winning mentality of a winning culture. Nope.

McDonaugh and Miller were dealt for peanuts to Tampa. It was a goddamn daylight robbery that stapled Tampa as Cup competitors from then to many years to come. Nevermind the other deals. What Rangers got back was a robbery for ONLY McD. Holy hell...

Grabner, everybody were dealt for peanuts. If Zuccarello would've accepted the fire sale and not stayed loyal, he wouldn't have been dealt like the garbage at the back door and he would've been in a better position himself.

This really bugs me. NYR rewarded Zuccarello's loyalty - even through the rough years - like a goddamn doormat. Now he's back on track in Minnesota and is still a treat to watch, but he should still play in New York. What the hell happened there? It was pathetic.

THIS is why new players in the league don't hold ANY loyalty to the franchise that drafted them. Because why should they? It's a business company, who cares which ruthless company it is?

This is also what really bugs me about the entertainment model of the NHL instead of the sports model of a sports league. Can't they at least try to be a sports league once and then? It's pathetic.

As for the rest of the awful trades in NYR history through the last decade? I could write a book about it.

Grabner? We got a 2nd round pick and B prospect for a rental of a guy we had signed out of UFA 18 months prior. That second rounder was used to trade up for some guy called KAndre Miller

You can agree or disagree with the way Zuccarello was dealt, but rebuilds mean that you need to sell off established pieces for value. That's how it's always been done. We traded Brian f-ing Leetch at the deadline in a rebuild year.

Extending Zuccarello would have been a much bigger mistake. I know hes had a hot start to the season, but remember Callahan was a PPG for the first 30 games or so during his first full season with Tampa before that carriage turned into a pumpkin. It looks nice now, but he will revert back to what he really is soon enough. Funny how you didn't mention how much he sucked last year which was a MUCH bigger sample size than what hes done this year.

Years 3-4-5 were always going to be the biggest issue with him. Moving on from him was the RIGHT move, the only reason why he didn't return more than he did is because he coasted for the first 3 months of 2018-19 and then chased the money/security in Minnesota instead of a chance to win in Dallas (which was 100% his right.) Zuccarello pouted on his way out of town, what makes you think he would have been capable of handling the load in the room under difficult situations? If anything, the evidence points to it being more likely that he would have completely folded.

Also, if they kept him, they likely don't have Kakko OR Lafreniere. These things are all connected. LOL at Grabner for Peanuts. What the f*** did you think he was going to return? Did you forget that part of his return was used to trade up to get Miller, who is currently eating 20+ minutes a night for our team right now?

This is a contender for the worst post of 2021 which is saying something because the DeAngelo thread and the Panarin thread both exist.

Boo hoo. I loved Zucc as a Ranger, but if he's still on the team, then Panarin isn't.

We were an overtime goal away from the 2nd becoming a 1st, and the 3rd would have been a 1st if Minnesota hadn't offered a 5th year.

Yea that trade was ass, disgrace he couldnt get a 1st for him. You don't make trades with gambles like if XXX happens than you get a 1st. I hope Gorton learned his lesson with that.

But i've moved on from Zucc after the comments he made after leaving the team

I was a proponent for keeping Zucc and/or Hayes... It's the contracts though. Even though Hayes' contract doesn't seem too bad now

If Zucc took 4 years, he would be here

Kids, this is why you don't give Webster your HF password.

I loved Zucc as much as anyone, but it was time. Your new leadership core won't emerge as long as the old one still holds court. The team turned the page. It's not easy but it happens.

Zucc enabled a lot of lazy offensive zone gameplans and play because of how good he was on the walls and *routinely* winning 1 on 1s and 1 on 2s on the forecheck. It's a longterm net negative to *rely* on those kinds of exceptional individual efforts because of when they inevitably fail; see Zibanejad, Mika this year.

I just don't get it. We have more high end talent on our roster than we know what to do with at every position except C. Our RW depth could be Buch-Kakko-Kravstov-Gauthier. Why do we need Zuccarello?

What the Hell are you talking about? Zibenajad had a career year last year and Zucc wasn't even on the team.

Oy vey. This drek again?

Dammit am I angry that the Rangers trades King and Domi for Eddie O. For that matter trading Giacomin was a mistake. And the Middleton thing was and is awful.
