Yeah, Marner is the obvious candidate from the big 4 to be moved. In a perfect world they can get a guy like Tkachuk and sign a good depth forward with the cap savings. I'd also look into what the trade value for Morgan Rielly is.

To Columbus
Mitch Marner

To Toronto
Seth Jones

- I'd then trade Reilly for a tougher, all situations, top 6 winger, before he wants a raise.

- Let Anderson, Galchenyuk, Jumbo, Nash, Foligno and Dermott walk.

- Trade Mikheyev

- Lose Kerfoot to expansion

- Sign Jaden Schwartz

- Sign Hyman and Simmonds, only if they'll take less than 4.0 million and 750k. Otherwise, they can both kicks rocks as well.

Start with...

Reilly Trade-Matthews-Nylander
Schwartz-Tavares-Hyman
????-????-????
Simmonds-Engvall-Spezza

Jones-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl

Trade Marner - I'll at least have some interest again

So who do we think are realistic trade partners in a Marner trade?

I think LA makes a lot of sense. They won’t move Byfield but I would love to nab Turcotte.

Calgary is rumoured to have a shake up. But would they move Tkachuk? I think it’s more likely a Gaudreau trade finally happens.

Ottawa? Not like the Leafs and Sens haven’t made big moves before. I think as much as a lot of people are looking to trade Marner, this would be too risky of a destination.

Seattle? They have an abundance of cap space. They’ll have a top pick in the draft, and there’s some interesting players they couple pick in expansion and flip in a potential deal to us.

Given our cap situation, I figure one way to improve the team is to sign a UFA (free asset) that allows you to trade another player for assets. For example sign Hamilton and trade Rielly. Sign Schwartz and trade Nylander.

Why trade Nylander when you can move him up to play with Matthews and move Marner instead?

Marner for Seth Jones
Reilly for an all situations, top 6 forward.

That probably works nicely.

Do what u can to bring in jones.
-Jones at 8x9 and domi or Jenner for marner, lilgjren and 2nd
- let Anderson walk
- find a back up - gorgieiev , dried German, korposalo , marazk type. For 2-3 mil
- give hymen a small raise
- explore trades for rielly for a winger or 3c and either pick or prospect or run him back for 1 more year to pair with jones
- bring up Robertson full time and he plays in top 6
- add a ufa lhd. Either a vet or 2-4 mil option if u move rielly.
- find a ufa 3c or try brooks
-bring spezza back!!!!
- maybe simmonds as well depending on price and how u feel about him.
-explore trades for kerfoot

Hymen -mathews-nylander
Robertson-jt-domi
Hymen- ufa/ brooks -kerfoot
Ufa-spezza -ufa / simmonds

Ufa/ rielly- jones
Muzzin -holl
Sandin-brodie

Campbell
Gorgieve , driedger, korposalo, marazk

Fire hextal and Manny. Install veteran coaches

Fire Shanahan and install new president. 50/50 on keeping dubas but needs to shake up core if kept and has 1 more year under new president to show progress

Dont overpay or over term Hyman. Put trade feelers out for MM. Let jumbo, simmonds, bogo, foligno, nash. Keep gally. Brooks up for good. Bye freddy. Do we lose holl, dermott or Kerfoot. Do not give up assets to keep any. Fill in with brooks or lilly. Increase team speed

Nate Schmidt Is a name We are hearing a lot in Vancouver that He could available.

He had a Off Year, In a Covid And Injury Plagued Canucks Season.

If somehow can get Kings to bite on Marner.. As for Seattle doubt starting off want high priced player.

Friedman estimated that the flat cap will remain in place for at least the next five years which completely changes everything.

One of the big contracts: Tavares (11m), Matthews (11.64m) or Marner (10.9m) need to be moved. Nylanders (6.96m) contract is fair value and worth every penny.

Time to adapt to the new landscape.

Only an example. Gladly trade Marner and his cap hit for Jones or Eichel. I do not mind Nylander with Matty but I am starting to get tired of Nylander skating miles around the perimeter (even though he was very good for the first 5 games of the series).

If you want to trade Marner, I think you need three forwards to make his loss palatable. Either you get those forwards back in the trade or through cap space made available.

You need 2/3rds of a very good 3rd line. You also need a forward to take Marner's spot on the top line

  • Marner to LAK for 1st + Turcotte, and sign Danault + Saad.
  • Marner to VGK for Smith, Krebs, 2 1sts and sign Danault.

Hopefully cbj for jones or maybe the pegulas would give eichel. If eichel gets f***ed up from the surgery he wants to do we get 11m in cap space which i'm perfectly fine with as well.

Looking at the Free Agents this off-season. One guy I always associate with great post-seasons is Jaden Schwartz. He puts up decent regular season numbers and then comes alive in the playoffs. Obviously, the money would need to be right, but if you can get him on a decent deal, he's a guy that can play up and down the lineup.

So who do we think are realistic trade partners in a Marner trade?

Off the top of my head: Buffalo, LA, Calgary, Carolina, Vancouver (Benning might be dumb enough) , Columbus and maybe even the Rangers all have nice pieces that would interest the Leafs. Marner fits the timeline of these teams also.

Majority of Marner's money has already been paid come July 1. Priority would be to kick tires on Eichel and see where he's at health wise. Next would be LA, there's some nice players there on ELC who could contribute now, I don't know if Blake would make a big move like that now though.

And of course Seth Jones, makes sense if he's willing to re-sign.
