I think the Leafs move Dermott before they use him as a #7. He has too much value and I imagine there are a lot of teams who would love to have him for some picks.

I still think Liljegren over Sandin as well.

Both valid points.

I think the real question is to how much they're willing to gamble on the likes of Brooks/Robertson/Anderson/Semyonov. If they think they have players there you can send 2m to upgrade hutch, 1.5m to upgrade Engvall, and still have 4.3 m per open wing spot.

This is the frame I would want to work with going into next season (assuming Kerfoot is taken in expansion)

Assuming cheap deals for Galch/Bogo/Spezza, that's around 14M to fill the last 5 holes in the lineup. There is some room to navigate.

Some Targets (at the right price): Coleman, Granlund, Schwartz, Goodrow, Armia, Getzlaf, Cizikas, D. Ryan, Haula, Bernier, Mrazek, Reimer

Going to be a tough offseason. I hope to see some creativity from management. We need cheap players that contribute more value to the team than their cap hit would indicate.

For better or for worse we don't really have reason to believe a major shake up to the core is coming this season. I would suspect the most realistic core move would be Rielly if any due to his contract, but even that is a very small chance.

I get where you are coming from, but I think management is much more patient that us with this group. And hopefully it pays off for them.

It's the same core 4 filling out 4/6 top 6 spots and the same top 4D, basically Hyman walked and you're subbing in a couple wingers...that's not substantial changes. The group needs substantial change.

I'm not against it happening. Also not betting on it. Jumping on every post in this thread over the next few months with "NOT ENOUGH CHANGE, I WANT CHANGE" is going to get tiring.

I've run scenarios where he stays and where Marner goes. I just wouldn't want to make a bad trade involving Marner.

Rielly might be the smart move along with letting Hyman walk. We've seen a lot of pieces walk for nothing year over year while chasing playoff success while experiencing very little of it.

My moves for the off season.

Kerfoot (3.5M) is selected by Seattle.
Reilly (5M) and Engvall (1.25M) traded to SJ for Evander Kane (7M)
Dermott dealt for prospects or picks

David Savard signed as FA (4x4.5M)
Casey Cizikis signed as FA and brought home (3x3M)
Zack Hyman resigned 4X4.5M
Gally resigned 2x1.5M
Bogo resigned 2x1.5M
Rittich resigned 2x1.5M
Spezza resigned vet min
Simmonds resigned vet min

I get wanting Galchenyuk back, he had a nice little run for us - but after his last 2 seasons, failed reclamation project with Pittsburgh, dumped to Minnesota, healthy scratch/ineffective on a rebuilding Sens before being dumped to Carolina who immediately waived him and told him to stay home - I can't imagine anyone giving him a 2 year deal, he should be a league minimum/PTO guy at this point.

Not a fan of the Reilly deal, we cant deal him, unless we have a #1 d-man, and you leave us without one for a flakey winger.
the Bolded are overpays, and big time overpays by 1 to 1.5 on both players. the Hyman love is misplaced, and he is actually an offense killer.
Savard isnt good enough to get that much
the underlined will all have better options available at the same salary ...they didnt work last year, why redo the same mistakes.
While Bogo played okay (better than i expected) we got him for his toughness and the fear he would reek on the ice, but, he didnt scare anyone but our goalie any time he pinched. on D my #1 target is Olesiak (and I do like Savard, but, cheaper) these guys a due a pay decrease Gudbranson/Larsson and would be better than Bogo
in net offer the same to Driedger (or a bit more on a longer deal) or Comrie
Simmonds was bad after he got injured, and he cant stay healthy, Perry would be a much better option.

Canucks: Sutter, Kerfoot could help solve riddles in the middle | The Province

Which brings us to Vancouver native Alex Kerfoot. At 26, he has two years left on his Toronto Maple Leafs’ contract at a palatable US$3.5 million annual salary cap hit. And he has been on the Canucks’ radar.

The Leafs aren’t expected to protect the centre for the Seattle Kraken expansion draft. The cap-strapped club needs to sign first-line UFA winger Zach Hyman. He’s in store for a big jump from his expiring US$2.25 million annual hit after a season in which he complied 33 points (15-18) in 43 regular-season games. The Leafs can’t afford to lose him to free agency.

They also can’t take on salary in a possible Kerfoot deal but may be persuaded to take a draft pick or prospect. And if the Canucks truly believe they’re two years shy of being a competitive force, this is worth a kick of the trade tires.

The Canucks chased Kerfoot hard before the college free agent signed a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche in 2017 and then put up 32 points (12-20) in his first 45 games as a second-line centre.

“I had a good meeting with the Canucks — Trevor Linden, Travis Green and Jim Benning — and I was impressed,” Kerfoot said at the time. “But at the end of the day, Colorado offered more (opportunity) and it was hard to turn down.”

The Canucks could also consider a number of possibilities to address their roster next season. A lot of scenarios are on the table, but Kerfoot between Highmore and Vasily Podkolzin quickens the possibility pulse.

I wonder if Corey Perry and the Leafs come together this off-season.

I think it was Simmons (blah) who said it might happen

The year we pushed harder for it was when he went to Dallas, couldn't compete with the offer because of cap space.

Last year they had Simmonds and seemingly chose Thornton over Perry. That one hurt.

D will likely be the same we may change up our bottom pair RD if we cant re-sign Bogo.

And we need another goalie.

Mikheyev and Engvall have gotta go IMO. Making too much money and I'd rather have guys with more grit in those spots. Im assuming Kerf goes to expansion.
